Question SV premium: Flash Drive + Movies

I have watched one or two DVDs in the car, But

I was wondering if there is any way I can save movies to my flash drive and watch it in the car?

Thanks

With my Iphone I can watch movies using my RCA inputs in the arm rest. It would be cool if there was a way to play right from the USB.

I have Droid phone, I tried using the rca adapter to watch videos on you tube, did not work. Am I doing something wrong?

Gotta do the DVD-in-motion hack or have the car parked with E-brake on. I did the hack and use Google Maps as my GPS Navigation instead of the Nissan one...nice because it has free traffic overlay!

oh nice! Personally, I hate Nissan s navigation.
So if I do the hack, I can use the Droid navigation on my screen in the car?

How much does it cost for parts?
Might want to do that...

The parts don't seem that expensive, look through the DVD navigation hack thread for more details on that. Most of it seems like just getting in there and doing it, and hiding it well.

I've enjoyed having my Droid Inc connect to the RCA connections although the picture isn't the best quality I still love the functionality way more than the Nissan nav.

Strange thing is I haven't been able to play a regular DVD in my car...it doesn't seem to recognize anything. I have the SV Sport/Tech is it possible I have a CD player instead?

Yes it's possible you only have the CD player. It should say DVD on you dash next to the **** if it plays DVDs + check with your service dept.

Oh ok just making sure it's possible and it's not that I have a collection of damaged DVDs.

Wonder if it's possible to upgrade the head unit in my 2009 to a newer year's model that has a DVD player, a plug in the back so I can add my own USB port via cable, and the upgraded Bluetooth that supports audio streaming too.

Having the USB port would be pretty damn useful.

Does it fill up the entire screen? When I did TV Out on my Samsung Captivate, there was a black border about 1" thick around the sides. Was hoping for full screen so I was a little disappointed.

Yeah there's a little border around mine too. Not sure if it's cause the resolution doesn't match, or if it's a limitation of the A/V inputs that it will just not look great.

The guy at the dealership told me I could watch DVD's but it wont read one, after reading this thread I checked the dash and it does not say DVD (only bluetooth, cd, mp3 and gracenote) is there anyway to watch DVD's in an 09? I have the RCA's in the console...

Your only option at this point is a portable DVD player connected to the RCA jacks.

This is right. I thought I had a DVD player too but mine is just for CD's. I wish they made it possible to swap out the head unit for the one with the DVD player and more advanced bluetooth that supports audio streaming. There's a hell of a market for it.

From what I understand a lot of the wiring is different. I don't get it though why some 3rd-party company can't make a harness that works...

ya thats what I was thinking. so if I get a portable DVD player, where do I draw the power for it from..I'm guessing an AC/DC converter? probably going to talk to my buddy who does car audio/video tomorrow and see what he suggests.

Any portable DVD player should have a battery, no? You can take it out of the car to recharge it.

Most come with a 12v DC port cord as well, so you could plug that into one of the power ports, or make a more permanent connection. Note that on most portable electronics, the 12v DC power won't charge the battery.

Thanks for the info. I havent yet looked at any portable DVD players as I have been busy the past few days but I'm sure you are correct.

Another question more in line with this thread topic...are you able to save movies to a flash & play them thru the CF player??
