So I think I posted a while ago that I tested the coils w/and oscilliscope and could see them missing. Espescially the ones on the right head. Mind you my maxi only has 82,000. When I replaced the rear three about a year ago there was a huge difference in power. I was then able to chirp the tires (not done before!).

Earlier this year I did the suspension, and was no longer able to chirp the tires. I saw this as a good sign b/c with the drop kit I'm getting better traction.

So just yesterday I got the money together to replace the three in the left head. And bang baby chirping those bad boys again. There a section of highway service road that I can do some crazy speeding on, I use this as my test track after making changes. And I saw that I could readline the engine a lot easier 6,500 or maybe slightly over.

So I just wanted to point out that these coils fail/become less effective. Doing a simple resistance check is not good enough, if your into power. If you guys have more than 100,000 on them I would definitly reccomend chaging them. From Curtesy Parts the price is about $54 or so. I know they are expensive, to get all six is over $300. But at least replace the rear bank of them. The rear bank runs alot hotter and so the coil will fail sooner due to the excessive heat.

thanks for the info. I'm actually looking at going to a full aftermarket ignition system and getting rid of the coil packs altogether.. costs will be a little more on the aftermarket system, but still won't be too bad.
(and YES, they do make aftermarket systems that are able to work with coil-on-plug ignition systems like on the VE)

I read up on something along those lines in an aftermarket catalog somewhere. I was skeptical at first, but I'd been considering the same thing, too. If/when you go ahead with it Matt, let everyone know about it, ok?

how much extra cost would be involved? what would the benefits be?

I thought this was discussed just a couple months ago and all that came out of it was that there is just this one part (forget what it was) that they make for the VE, and it didn't do much or wasn't worth it.... Now Matt's talking about a whole system? Sounds like it replaces the coils with (something)... how is that supposed to work without a distributor if you don't use direct ignition?

I doubt Matt will tell all, because as has happened in the past, when Matt tells people what he did, there are 100 kids running around copying his exact setup. Matt does all the homework and gets pleasure from helping to make HIS ride fast, not everyone else's.
