Knock sensor: male or female?

I've seen two different types of knock sensors when I look online for my 91. One is a donut shape (female) and the other is more of a shaft with threads (uh, the male). The nissan parts book shows the latter. Yes I could look under the car, but I don't have access to the car until I want to make the swap. The existing one shows an open condition on the ohmmeter when I tested it at the harness connection.

The way the FSM shows to test the knock sensor on the VG is misleading.

While the harness has two prongs at the end of the connector, the knock sensor itself has only one. When looking in the sub-harness, one prong is for the wire going to the knock sensor while the other prong is for the shielding wrapping the sensor wiring. So to test the knock sensor, test between the prong for the knock sensor and the engine itself like a bare metal section.

Donut is for the VE30DE (DOHC) and the type with the shaft is fo your VG30 (SOHC) engine.

SInce Ive owned this car, Ive never seen or know where the knock sensor is located on this car. Strange?? And iVe driven this car alot and fixed and replaced alot of parts, but never known where this sensor was located. Does someone have a picture of the knock sensor on the VG engine?

well i found the knock sensor on the vg engine. Its in an awkward spot though, its misleading to say that its located under the rear exhaust manifold, but more closer to the oil filter. Dont know if mine is working or not.
