Removed spare tire area?
Has anyone removed the spare tire area by cutting it out and welding in a flat bottom or altered trunk bottom for any sort of trunk, rear end, subwoofer or exhaust upgrades? Just curious

I remember hearing someone talk about doing it. Dont remember if they ever got around to finishing it though. But I know plenty of people personally that took a sledge hammer to the spare tire well (from the bottom) to make room for things such as custom exhaust setups and hidden power makers.
I need to price out everything first!
I would like to remove the stock panhard bar and install a full heimed 4-link off the rear axle...I'm busy enough with the motor mount project and work'n on my truck for now...I was just curious b/c I was look'n around while I was under there the other day. Anyone know of ANY nissan rearend with independent suspension that will fit under the rear of our cars with a decent amount f welding mods? I honestly am not impressed with the solid axle
as for the trunk floor fabrication...It would not make the unibody weaker b/c a new floor would be welded in. It would only be weaker if the floor was not welded in properly.

You could check out beefing the IRS on the 3rd gen for extra weight. It would still require a lot of modification(understatement), but you seem like an industrious guy. Check out the 4th gen forum. Plenty of discussion on the Nissan decision to switch from IRS to beam. Mostly financial reasons, but they do a good job of justifying it through performance as well.

if the perf reasons are logical to my little brain...I may just stay with it. I'll check it out
That's not fair! You can't leave us hanging like that. =(
@LightScout: Ah, I forget how strong welds are, d'oh! Most of the car is held together by welds, but that fact was slipping my mind.
