need help pin pointing an exhaust leak.

I just changed both gaskets on the headers, and both on the test pipe.
(custom maxima headers )

And I still hear a slight leak . Most noticable as the RPMS drop.

I think it might be the flex section but I dont know for sure.... hard to tell cant really fit my hand above it...

What can I do , I was thinking seafoam and maybe the smoke will show it?

anyone have any other ideas?

What i do is start the car have someone hold the rpm's up a little and spray all the flanges with some kind of all purpose cleaner and if theres a leak it will start bubbling up right away.A lift would be a plus but i guess jackstands would be fine as well...just be carefull i had a good friend get crushed and killed by a faulty jack setup a few years back

K ill try that, I made a half *** attempt with some dish detergent water mix but the exhaust was hot so it just steamed right away.

i want to try to wrap my flex section with exhaust wrap....whats anyone think?

the flex section i want to try wrapping is on a warpspeed y pipe on my 91 se
i think i bought it like 9-10 years ago,
i also had it on a 92 gxe at first
i may also do new cat flange gaskets if i can find the thick ones that came
with my high flow cat from warpspeed like 2+ years ago

if you smoke blow smoke around and look for the smoke being blown around works best on a really calm day, or use a lighter, slowly move lite lighter over areas that might be leaking if flame gets blown around that would be a leak.

They were on the car from the previous owner , cant tell you .

But they touch the oil pan which I dont like , and the flex section seems to have crapped out and they dont look that old...

From the looks of it OBX would be your best bet, unless youve got cash and dont mind spending it cattman you cant go wrong.

if you hear a sort of "gurgling" sound when the rpm's are dropping i can almost guarantee its the flex sextion....had the same problem with my exhaust but had a tough time finding the tear

Yes that sounds like what it is.
Sounds diffrent then a normal "fart sound " exhaust leak. And its mostly noticable when windows are closed and im at wot in 4th/5th . Or when the rpms drop after a rev...

Its tough to really get your hands around the flex and feel an air leak since I cant realy get my hand above it due to clearance..

Well after alot of head scratching . I finally got the flex section changed out, sounds alot better.

But im still getting a slight "tisk tick tisk" sound when I rev and the rpms drop. Doesnt realy sound like a full blown leak . If it is its just a minor one.

A friend of mine looked at it and said the sound could just be the motor/valves . Since the custom maxima headers are a very thin cheap metal it doesnt muffler the noise aswell?

I have some exhaust wrap and im going to wrap the y-pipe and go from there.

Never did the sea foam trick but thats on my list for tomoro just for piece of mind.
Brake booster still the best spot the suck it in from ?

The sea foam was ok but still couldn't point out the exact spot. Car didn't smoke as bad as the first time I sea faomed it.. But looks like a small leak is coming from the rear manifold ... Cheap ebay headers the face of the flange is so narrow in some spots .. Combined with the ****y fit is just not a good combo...
