OEM antenna winding down.

Or it's the secret turbo still turning.

One or the other. Or both

Nope. Other than the antenna, it seems pretty quiet to me.

Maybe the electric cooling fan still running?

Mine does the same

Not when I turn it off, but when I turn the key to electrical so I can turn the cd player on and roll the windows up and such. The antenna sounds like it's going up/down, but it's not going anywhere. It works normally when I want it to go up, but when I turn the car to the electrical switch, it really sounds just like the antenna's moving. And it does it every time turn the key to that position. What is it?

my antenna makes a noise when i turn the car on or off but it doesn't move cause it's broken. it's kinda funny. it seems like it goes for about 3 times as long as it's supposed to like it's really trying to get it to move or something. lol

No, my antenna works. Whenever I wanna listen to the radio, then antenna will power up on it's own. It's not the original antenna (the second one), but it's held up pretty well. And the noise just started pretty recently. I think my antenna's gonna go soon or something. Probably bad wiring on my part when i put the CD player in. Ever since I swaped out my OEM casset deck for a sony CD player, the radio has sounded really crappy. Everything works, so it doesn't boyther me (I don't listen to the radio anyway). I just wonder what that noise is. It seems to be coming from the back end of the car near the trunk, but I can't quite pinpoint it. I guess I'll figure it out eventually.

I would guess that is the MAF sensor wire. When you turn the car off, it supposedly heats up the wire somewhere around 1300 degrees to burn off any junk on the wire. I may be mistaken....heck, that might not make a sound at all, don't know...Just my guess.

Same here

I get that noise too (94 SE), kinda like a dull hum coming from what seems to be the driver-rear wheel well. Happens pretty consistently so if anyone knows, I'd be interested to hear why also.

Your gas guage is probably low too...

The noise you are hearing has something to do with fuel tank pressure and fume reduction in the tank. Next time you hear it, note if you are almost on empty... also, remove the gas cap from the tank and relieve the pressure. It stops the noise.

I think it's some type of recirculation pump or something of that nature. I bet it has to do with Boyle's law, increased pressure creates lower condensation points, ergo higher pressure in your tank condenses fuel vapors, prominent in an almost empty tank, back into fuel droplets.

Thoughts?
