96 gle rough idle

it feels like the piston is hitting hard but it is not consistent. almost like a random miss but i have had it scanned a few times and no codes at all, and it seems to only happens when in gear stoped at a light or something

Do you mean that the car is missing at tickover, but drives normally? If so, I bet it will be a bad injector. Try putting a load of injector cleaner in the tank. if it goes away for a while then that's the cause.

No, this is transmission related. Its either the torque converter or the valve body. My 99 i30 does the same thing. It doesnt happen all the time, and if you put it in neutral or park it smooths out.

If putting the car in gear affects the idle, then the IACV is filthy or otherwise not working properly.

@jncoracer how do i check to see if that is my problem because when i first bought the car i had a code for the shift solenoid but the code just went away so i never thought any thing of it.but the same thing if i put in park or neutral it smooths out but i can still feel it a little
@clive wouldn't the iacv throw a code? i will remove it and clean it any way it cant hurt it is filthy. i don't know what tick over is and if it was an injector wouldn't it be consistent? sometime it feels like three cylinders are missing back to back sometimes it feels like every other cylinder is missing its just never the same and it doesn't seem to have lost any power
