One headlight goes dark; High Beam Ind comes on ???

on a 99' SE...

Having a problem where one headlight will go out. When it does, the high beam indicator (on dash) lights up. No amount of switching the switch seems to fix eithe rproblem, but within a few minutes it typically corrects itself - headlight comes back on, high beam indicator goes out.

Is there a relay that typically goes bad in these? Or the switch? I could use some pointers to common ailments.

Thanks,

Try pushing the connector all the way in for the headlight that keeps "going out".
The high beam indicator goes "on" to tell you that one of ur headlights is out.

You've got an element in one headlight that is burned out, but still occasionally makes contact and illuminates. Replace both headlights and be done.

Thnaks boys... I didn't know of the "headlight out" indicator. I'll try cleaning the connector on the bad one and replace the bulb if that doesn't do it.

take a look at the harness ill be willing to bet the ground contact on the bulb socket is a little burnt and now so is the headlight contact(s). if so you may need to replace the socket, i cut mine and soldered in a new one.

Exactly what happened to mine, I soldered in a new connector and all is well.

Finally got out there last week to repair it...

Turns out the connector was seriously degraded. One pole of the connector was corroded and/or burned. I imagine it corroded first, then the resistance caused it to start burning off. I replaced the connector and it's back in proper operation.
