I need a good set of rotors for a '99 daily driver... not a performance car.

So, what's good? I don't need cross drilled, high performance, I just need flat. The last time I did this job I went through three sets to get one that stayed flat through the road test. I think I ended up with dealer rotors that time.

Pad brands/recommendations also appreciated. Again, daily diver, not high performance. Something that's akin to original quality and performance from cold is needed.

Also, whose are the preferred on-line or chain providers? I'm not familiar with many on-line (inexpensive, fast, quality) Max parts suppliers.

AutoMax95 on here sells rotors at good prices. look in the group deals section.

My personal preference is Brembo rotors and Hawk HPS or Axxis/PBR MetalMaster pads. Those pads are good for 'spirited driving', but I think the HPS are fine for colder weather too.

If you want something a bit "more stock" on pads, I recommend Raybestos or Bendix pads, which are the premium stuff at the local parts stores. These two brands are pretty close to the OEM stuff as far as performance, noise, and dust. The others above are better if you want something a little better than stock for a fun weekend drive, but dont' need a really aggressive pad.

Expect to pay about $50 per set for any of the above, and about $30-40 each for rotors.

 

I was browsing rockauto.com and found some raybestos for $27 each, and u get free tshirt. There's a 10% coupon code floating around too. 3year warranty.

If you're on a serious budget, partstrain.com has Replacement rotors (company name is replacement), 1year unlimited mile warranty, $13 each. I've used these and am happy with them for spirited driving. Could be an option if you're not planning on keeping the car long, or you drive seriously conservatively.

PM automax_95 in the GD section for some RTP blanks. im on my 3rd set.

 

I've had a good experience using the Brembo rotors and Axxis MetalMaster pads. They do produce a good amount of dust, but the performance of this combo is solid.

The initial bite when cold is average, but after a few stops, they really begin to bite hard. I'm really impressed with them and will stick with them the next time I do my brakes.

^^^^ Those rotors and a good set of pads is all you need for great brakes.

Akebono pads are a very reasonably priced OE equivelent replacement pad.
Hawk HPS are very nice pads. A bit dusty though.

Either way you'll have great brakes for your DD.

 

Check out the EBC brand, available fairly inexpensive from many online retailers.
