Alright I got my car about 2 months ago from my uncle.

I want to get EVERYTHING checked out. Absolutely everything. Would going for a safety tell me this? I know it would tell me the core parts, but I'm talking about fluids / oils / breaks / just absolutely everything.


Should I go to a Nissan Dealer? Would any big car dealer ship that offers this service work?

Is it possible to find a place that won't screw me over? By saying I need this and this and this, when I really don't.

I'm in canada btw.

 

if you walk into a shop telling them how much you dont know, and telling them you want EVERYTHING checked, theyre gonna get as much money as they can outta you.

 

the dealership is the last place you want to go to. they would probably send you out with a 4 figure bill before any work is even done. why do you need a check up?

fluids, spark plugs and brakes are relatively cheap parts and easy to swap, perhaps instead of spending few hundred on a mechanic to check them out, buy the parts and swap yourself? all this basic maintenance can be done with a simple tool box and help of a manual such as chilton's. very easy.

 

I took my max to the dealer to find any parts that may need to be replaced, and they did it for free, and printed me a sheet of parts that are doing well, stuff i may need to replace in the future and parts that need immediate attention. Your car only stays half a day and the dealer was pretty accurate about what i needed to replace

Edit:its called the multi-point inspection, they do everything but the brakes.

 

Where should you go for a complete checkup?

Your primary care physician or your local mechanic.
Which ever seems right for the patient.

 

Before buying used cars i've had dealers do the 250point inspection. takes like an hour, forgot how much it costs. not all dealers are crooks

 

Call all your local shops and tell them what you want inspected. Tell them flat out that you are comparing prices at local shops. If they know they have competition you are more likely to get a fair price quote. Plus, if you like the shop and service you can build a rapport with them and it could save you some headaches and cash later on down the road. It's always good to have a mechanic you trust to be fair and competent.

 

++++1 on finding a local shop that you can trust, and then build a relationship with them. Besides places like the BBB and Angie's List, find out from your friends and neighbors who they use. Do a LOT of research - the good ones will tend to rise to the top. Don't expect perfection, as even good shops may make mistakes or have issues. The key is how they treat you when a problem comes up.

 

 

Do some research and perform your own visual inspection on various parts and drive the thing because only then you will find out what problems(if any) you have. good luck
