Noise/Issue! Strut Mount? Ball Joint? Tie Rod?

What are the signs of a bad strut mount?
Similar to that of a bad ball joint or tie rod?

(I don't think my issue is the strut itself I know what that sounds and feels like when its bad.)

When I turn or go over a bump there is a clicking/cracking sound usually.
This is only from the driver side - front. And my steering it's kinda stiff. Particularly compared to my other max. (95 -> now to 97)

My mechanic checked it out and he said he saw nothing wrong but I know its not normal. He didn't exactly do a thorough look though. He also took it for a quick drive but still said he didn't hear or notice anything. But, he doesnt know the maxima as well as I know it in terms of feel and drive. Since I've owned three now.

There is another issue with a vibration that I can feel on the brake pedal. It starts off low then increases for the span of about 3 seconds then stops. a second later re-does it. Along with a kind of humming noise to go with it like a bilge bump in a boat. Could this be related? or naw?

You probably have worn strut bushings. The sound you describe is the same one I had. New bushings fixed the problem and I haven't heard the noise since.

http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/de...QKYSM5323.html

did you just order one seperately or did you order a new strut mount to go with it im seeing some seperately and then some sold with mounts as well. if its important to get the mount too i dont know. :s

im noticing there are different ones listed some say upper some dont say upper on other sites too
are there two per strut?

if the mounts are bad, chances are the struts are bad too. I had the same noise, but i replaced mounts and struts at the same time so i cant tell u which was makin the noise.

A loose mounting bolt will cause it to click. When I installed my struts last year I didn't tighten the top strut bolt enough so it clicked anytime I drove over a bump. Check the tightness of the strut bolt and the 3 mount bolts.
