Double din Head units to fit 4th gens? What do you have?

Looking for people to post up what double-din head units you use. I want a HU that will fill the whole top double din space without having to fill in gaps with dash kits etc.

I'm looking to update from my oldschool Alpine CD player w mp3 from early 2000s.

What double-din do you have and does it fit flush? Any dash kits needed?

I have the Eclipse AVN6620. It's a 7 inch touch/Nav/DVD/ipod unit.

There is about a 8mm gap at the bottom between the unit and the radio trim.

Nice! looks good! Do you have it installed now? How was install? I assume the previous owner had it wired for a max already?

$300 seems like an incredible deal for the Touch/Nav/DVD/IPOD hook up features

Yes, I have this installed. The install was a bit tricky since there was no how to install manual or anything. Got the box and there was a spaghetti of wires which I found out that the parking was bypassed (so you can watch the dvd while driving) and it was wired for his aftermarket amp (which I don't have). All I had to do was rewire some of the ground connections then I was gold.

Awesome, you got a great deal on the HU too. I'm trying to go used and get one on here so the wiring will be easier. I'm bad with wires haha.

I don't see where your Ipod hooks up to the HU? Also, does it have an AUX hookup for a rear mount camera, etc?

I have a JVC KW-XR810 double din. Its not a "screen" but I love it. Looks much, much better than a single dine

The ipod connection (separate little box) and is currently located in the glove (might relocate it to the arm rest). Yes, this unit is camera, blue tooth, tv, remote control and other things compatible. I'm currently trying to decide if I want BT or the camera. I'm leaning towards BT but that means its an extra $60 and taking off the dash again, which I hate doing.

Oldschool Kenwood 8017 in my 99. Super old pic

Eclipse 6620 in my 98. Added a small trim piece for the minute gap at the top/bottom/sides, and I made it flush too as it stuck out way too far for my liking.

Before:

After:

And while I had everything apart, I swapped the ECC for one with an AMB button, installed all new ECC buttons and trim panel, and added the push out drawer

Nice install wizard, very clean. I wouldn't expect anything less. It really makes a difference with the flush mount. Only way to go IMO. I really am trying to stray away from any kind of HU that would need a dash kit, etc. I need something like that that I can mount straight up to the radio trim brackets, but modify as necessary of course.

Looks pretty rough, I want something that looks stock and fits flush... 4th gen dash isnt big enough for an ipad, 6th gen is a different story...

Tron, IIRC it has different mounting holes so it can sit flush, but with the way it sits, it's perfect distance from my hand resting on the shifter to change songs just by extending my index finger.

Lazyness ftw.

Holy crap. You totally wedged that in there, and as a result your dash has buckled. Even the trim around the ashtray has gaps. You sure opened a huge can of worms.... now you gotta lot of work to do! Kudos for being different.

I see your pic is from 9/23/2010. Got a more recent daytime pic?

^^^ yeah this was a test fitment I did when I first got the ipad I did some measuring and opened up the center dash to the width I needed for me to be able to take the ipad out when I want (so not a permanent), it looks wedged cause i moved the a/c controls down which are wider, But with the a/c controls I had to trim the controls edge to allow the dash to close up properly so that gap by the shifter trim is not there anymore. I don't have any recent pics cause the cars been in my friends shop for an entire overhaul since April. Hoping to get it back soon, but I keep adding extra things to it. When I get it back I'll have a thread up for it so everyone can see the final product. Thanks also Wiz

I think if will fit better if you mount it vertically.

I'm trying to find a deal on a v1 w/3G to do in mine. Plan to relocate CC controls down low, lose clock and relocate hazard/rear defrost buttons somewhere else.

Yup. I just posted this in a thread where a guy just had his car broken into for the second time. See link below.

^^^^That shifter looks like a semi! lol

I ended up buying a Pioneer AVH-p4300dvd. It's the middle-of-the-line for the Pioneer 2011 products. Updates to follow.

That is the most intense gear shift I've ever seen on a Max.
