rad n tranny problems

My gf has an 03 gle with a leaky rad. Im not sure if the rad leaking has anything to do with her trans problem but I drove the car this morning and it was fine. I dropped my son off at daycare got back in the car started it got three lights on the das( tcs, slip and a flashing AT check) car wouldnt move. I was thinking since i didnt discover leaking rad til it was empty (strange she drove on it empty and it didnt overheat) maybe the trans isnt being cooled enuff. It seem to only slip when it was warmed up and after i turned the car off after driving for a while. Or should I just say the tranny is done.

Just to spark discussion, the radiator does have a reservoir at the bottom for transmission fluid. What exactly are you leaking? Is it coolant or transmission fluid?

I don't have enough transmission knowledge to diagnose your error lights though.

Did you check the oil level in the trans? Also, how did you check the water level in the radiator? You have to take the cap off of the radiator (when the engine is cold) and look in the radiator. If you looked at the plastic box behind the passenger side headlight, that is not the way to check the radiator level.

coolant out the top of the rad, the manual said at check means the trans needs to be serviced, tcs is the traction control system, and slip is slip ya kno.

TCS and SLIP by themselves mean an ABS brake problem. Whether the AT light changes the meaning, I don't know.

The coolant tank was empty so i figured the rad was empty, ok so look in the rad while the car is cold, gotcha. The trans fluid was fine I looked in the manual to see how to check the fluid level.

Your top tank of the Rad is leaking, had that same problem couple weeks ago, I just replaced it with a KoyoRad or you can order the top tank from Nissan.

Yes it can be order, they call it upper and lower tank(plastic), but like djfrestyl said, replace the Rad if you have the flow.

It's fairly simple to replace that part, I took mine apart experimenting with it, and well, it's still apart, contemplating whether to rebuild it as a spare or junk it, only had 71K miles on it.

The part number is 214122Y003, you might want to get the seal and throw it in at the same time, part # 214140P600.

Ivve searching on this issue about the lights tcs, slip, and ses lights staying on upon start up. In none of these threads does it mention anything about the at check light flashing which in the manual says get the tranny checked. My gf searched now she thinks its her coils going bad but wouldnt the car still be driveable on bad coils. iIf tI press the gas in gear it does nothing no revving nothing the rpm's dont move no response from the engine at all, so IM assuming the tranny is bad.

If the engine does not rev, it may be a throttle problem. The gas pedal sends a signal to the ecu and the ecu sends a signal to open the throttle.

Go to http://boredmder.com/FSMs/Nissan and download the FSM for your car. Look in section EC pages 466 through 476 for throttle diagnostics.

Wow u no ya stuff. I found my code reader and got a p1121 code electric throttle control actuator, so is this an easy fix?

I don't have electronic throttle, 2002 was the first year, so I can't really say. From what I read in the FSM, it doesn't look too bad, the parts are easy to get to. Part of it depends on how good you are at electrical troubleshooting.
