New Alternator, Blinking Battery Light on Dash
New Alternator, Blinking Battery Light on Dash
Just put my second alternator in from autozone. The first one was DOA. Just buttoned everything together, and the car seems to be getting juice from the alternator, powering the headlights, A/C, Radio, heated seats, all at idle,.... BUT, when I press the accelerator, the battery and brake lights flash quickly, ONLY WHEN THE ACCELERATOR is pressed. At idle everything seems normal. I know this indicates an error in the charging system, but this is the first time I've seen them blink rapidly and only under throttle.
Thanks a ton for any insight, perhaps I've overlooked something during the install.

If you attached all the wires to the altenator, there's nothing else you can do except take the alternator off and exchange it for another one. Or better yet, get your money back (with core) and go buy one at another parts chain.
OK, so the meter reads 12.8v on the battery when the car is not on. New Battery, so that's expected. When the car is started, and the light isn't on, the meter reads 14.6v. As soon as the throttle is pressed the meter immediately goes down to 12.6 then slowly, but consistently loses a hundreth of a volt, 12.60, 12.59, 12.58, 12.57 etc. If you turn on the lights and A/C the voltage drops quicker.
So, when the engine is under load, the alternator quits working. But at Idle its fine... Never had this happen before.

I'll save myself from repeating a rant by simply stating the following. Replace it under warranty or get your money back and buy one from a distributor that doesn't sell cheap junk.
