I sold my 02max to a friend of mine and he is having issues starting the vehicle. It just cranks and cranks but does not start. The mechanic stated it is the "NATS" or NIS as the culprit. ($488.00 out the door) I did search the forums and found many reports for the 1999 max but not for the 02.

1)Could it be just the key needing to be reprogrammed?
2)Could the System be jumped by bypassed the anti-relay switch?

did u change anything b4 u sold the car to a friend? ask the dealer to reprogram the key to the ecu and it shuld work

 

I did not change anything. When I first purchased the vehicle 2 yrs ago I got a key made and it was programed to work on the car. I never had an issue with it. He stated recently it would not start and then 10 minutes or so later it would. Maybe I should take it to the key shop again to see if they need to reprogram it. thanks.

 

Are you trying to remote start or with the key in the ignition? I have a viper alarm and the car will not start but infinite crank if i remote start.

 

Did he install a remote start system?
Does he have a RF remote/key on his keyring in close proximity to the vehicle key? (radio frequency will interfere with the chip key causing a NATS issue)
