Maxima Motor Swap 4th - 5th GEN ???

waht's the verdict?? Has anyone successfully swapped a %th Generation motor and ECU into a 4th generation Maxima?? I have a 1999 Se-Limited, and yes I've poured the miles to her. I just finished up my 3rd CRX motor swap, and am willing tpo try it if it is remotely possible. Please let me know what you all think. Thanks

I've heard it is extrememly difficult and costly. I'd never attempt it, but then again I don't have thousands of money to p*** away. If I did, I'd try a lot of things for my Max.

i can't swee why it wouldn't myself. The 2000's have the same motor as the 95's, so following that, why would the engine that fits in the later 5th gens fit into the 4th gens?

Regardless of all possibilities, I would rather stick with whats under the hood. Why waste so much time and money on a new engine that wasn't made for the car to begin with, when instead, you could modify the bejesus out of the 3.0 and end up with more power???

If you're that envious why not port out the heads to a 3.5???

Not to sound pessimistic... I'm just being rational here.

I've thought aboout this too. Why not just install a 5th gen 3.5L short block? This way you can use your non-vvt heads,ECU,ect. You will still get HP & torque gains from the higher displacement. I believe the blocks are identical just with a diferent stroke. I havent seen the specs but they look identical externally. Has anyone attempted this? This is somthing I would like to do becaue I'ts cheaper and not as risky. Besides, with the money you save from not useing the VVT heads and ecu, you can buy a s/c.

More power? Until you guys can have the Variable Intake Tracks, you won't have more power. The engine is the same, and will produce more power until you guys figure that one out.

With the $$ of the 5th gen motor..u could find a rebuild 4th gen and have extra $$ for a S/C..i would imagine a rebuilt 4th gen w/ S/C would have a lor more HP than a stock 5th gen
