I WON!!!

Well almost.

At Emerald Coast Dragway they put on a sport compact event with several classes to race in. It was only $5 more than the Test and Tune so i went ahead and entered. I fell into the FWD street tire class.

First race: 90's crx with "supercharged" in chrome on the front bumper. Carbon fiber everywhere and DR's on some small light wheels. I got the light and and he was sleeping from rolling too deep and backing up. W for the Maxihog with a 9.71 at 74.12mph to his 9.93 at 72.84.

Second race: Same crx from the first run was given a mulligan from "lights glitching". They asked if it was ok with me and I said sure, being a good sportsman and all. I tree'd him again and kept about 2 cars from 60' to half track and then put another 2 or 3 by the 1/8 mile finish. W for the hog again with a 9.72 at 74.4mph to his 10.00 at 72.13.

Third and final race: SS cobalt. Laptop tuning software, bolt-ons, and the kicker.......Hoosier DOT wrinkle wall slicks. He ran a 9.5 his last pass but i talked to him between passes and he said he launched at idle on accident. We line up and get the tree but he pulled a fender on my by the 60' with an even 2.0 to my 2.30. I bumped the limiter in 2nd after falling back a half car and lost even more from being out of the power range in 3rd before the finish. He picked up a full half second between passes with a 9.13 at 78.12 and I ran a night fasted 9.684 at 73.14

Had a blast! I have my buddies DR's for next time. I think with a 2.0 or better 60' i would have pulled it out without adding any power. I did get a first loser trophy and a congrats from several people on the car and the wins.

How are wrinkle wall slicks allowed in the street tire class? Those newer Cobalt SS's are quick stock and with just bolt ons and a tune run 12's.

DOT approved Hoosier "radial" slicks. Someone did some intense lobying to get them legalized on the street.

For a true street tire class they should put a minimum treadwear requirement.

Like 180 treadwear.
That will keep out the drag radials.
