Looking to replace my stock 18 inch tires for something better. I have a credit at discount tire so Ill be getting them from there. I want a good all season tire that will be able to do decent in the snow during the winter months. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

EDIT: I was looking at the Pirelli P-Zero Nero and Continental DWS but I believe the DWS are on back order.

 

yokohama avid envigor is a really good tire... I have heard nothing else but positive response.... A good balance between price and performance

 

I have heard good things about continental extreme contact DWS.

 

+1 on the dws... when i had my 2008, i got the dws to replace my rsa... big difference in ride comfort and road noise... and reviews say that it lasts longer than most all-season tires

 

Had the Continental extreme contact DWS's on my Civic SI and they were very good all around performance tires and AMAZING in the snow. Currently rolling the General G-Max AS-03's which I have been impressed with so far although I have yet to try them in the snow so the jury is out for the moment, but they are better in the dry than the DWS and about equal in the wet. They are also superior over metal grating and do not budge where the DWS felt like the tires were moving all over the place. Either of these tires are superior to the RSA's

 

Ok well just got word that that DWS are on back order so I am looking for other options that wont cost me an arm and a leg. lol Anyone had any experience with the Pirelli's?

 

Cooper CS4's have been great. I went with a highh treadwear rating as I was looking for long life. I also went up 5% on the height which I found is better in the snow. I had 225/50/17's & changed to 225/55/17 and have been very happy...no clearence issues either except when a foot of snow is on the ground!!!

...I forgot to mention that I replaced the Bridgestone Potenza's with Continental ContiTouring Contact tires that did not last long at all. After a 1 1/2 years I got the Coopers...that was 60K miles ago. I stated before I got a high treadwear rating of 780...though a little stiff(with a SE Maxima it really doesn't matter) it was was I was looking for.

 

I had PZero Neros on my brides Grand Cherokee and they didn't last 30K miles but then again, compounds change as does performance based on weight, driving style etc. I replaced my RSAs on my 7th Gen with Michelins MXMV4s at around 75K and now at 138000 have a lot of tread left and don't worry at all in the frequent Florida rains. Of course I am NOT aggressive, no snow driving and primarily highway only type of driver as well. I am very pleased with them.

 

This month's (Oct) issue of Consumer Reports lists the six highest rated ultra-high performance all-season tires from their testing of 73 different tire models.

The Pirelli P Zero Nero, Cooper Zeon RS3/A, Sumitomo HTR A/S P01, Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus, Yokahama Avid ENVigor and the Conti Extreme Contact DWS were the top six tires.

All six are excellent tires. The first three actually tied for first place in CU's testing , and the second three were tied and barely below the top three. CU tested these tires in eleven different characteristics.

The Cooper Zeon RS3/a tied the Michelin for longest tread life. The article mentioned that Cooper tires had improved markedly in recent years.

The Sumitomos were rated the best riding and quietest of these six, and were the least expensive.

The size tested was 225/40R18. The 245/45R18 and 245/40R19 sizes that are OEM on the Maxima may perform slightly differently.

I would check out sites like Tire Rack to get a second opinion.

 

I personally would recommend the Michelin Primacy MXV4's. They are sporty but have a super quiet ride and smooth ride. I have the Goodyear Comfortred Touring tires. They are better than the RS-As in almost everyway, but I'm not completely happy with them. If handling is your priority then I think the DWS's are your best bet.

 

smarty666, please tell us more about your experience with Comfortred Touring. What are the biggest improvements, and what is keeping you from being completely happy with them? I'm also considering DWS or Comfortred.
