Racing an SVT Contour ?
Guys, I was wondering how my maxima with Cai,Y pipe,Greddy, and handling goodies would hold up against a 98.5 contour 2.5 with the same mods? Im automatic and the contour is obviously a 5 speed. How would a 5 Speed max hold up against an SVT tour ?Thanks
Stock for stock, a 5spd 4th Gen (especially 95) are faster than the contours by almost half a second. Given similer circumstances the Maxi-pad should win without a big sweat.
Put a stock SVT contour against a pretty well modded 4th gen auto, then it should be close.

Thats what i thought. Im wondering whether to sell my max and get another max 5 speed, or an SVT contour.

SVT contours are still contours, and from what i've seen they are ugly little granny cars. Just MHO tho.

OH MAN , i just drove it,it was great, nice exhaust tone , good acceleration, it had a shortshifter with momo ****, i didnt really want to open it up all the way , and go hardcore , because well it isnt mine ,and i didnt know the clutch that well. But it left me with a desire for power once i was back in the maxima...

I hang out with a group of SVT Contour guys here in Kansas City. When I went to the track with them I was running 14.7s@94mph with a y-pipe, intake, and B-pipe. The fastest SVT was running 15.0s@92mph. He had an intake, chip, and removed exhaust resonators. The other 3 SVTs, all modified, were in the mid to upper 15s in the 88-90mph range. These runs were also in cool 50 degree weather.
The SVT is a very nice looking SVT and as usual SVT did a clean styling job. The interior is okay and the seats are okay, but the interior is too small for me. The leather sucks, IMO. These cars make good top end power, but their small 2.5 liter displacement and relatively heavy weight (~3050lbs) don't make them very fast off the line. They make their power from 5000-6800rpms where as our 4th gens make power from 4000-5700rpms. The strongest NA SVT I've seen dyno put down 170fwhp and 155fwtq. With my y-pipe, intake, and B-pipe, I was making 176fwhp and 194fwtq the same day. The advantage from 0-70mph clearly goes to the Maxima. The exhaust note of the SVT is awesome and it's handling is very nice. The biggest problems with the SVTs are electrical gremlins and a notoriously weak drivetrain. Simply put, expect problems with the tranny.
