Sucks! I liked that track. Ran my fastest times in the maxima there.

Well, there's MonKan in Missouri, featured in Hod Rod magazine last issue, just across the Kansas border from Pittsburg, and Wichita has a 1/4 mile track with new owners and a strong local following. KCIR and Tulsa were the heavy hitters in my neighborhood, and now they're gone.

For what its worth, I've had my best 60 foots at Wichita.
The air isn't as good there though.

Drag strips are closing everywhere, it's sad.

Tulsa is still going to be around.. They made a partnership and are opening a "new" racetrack

KCIR is having an auction of all their stuff !

This is a PDF file of their final auction...

I think I'll try for the stainless steel urinal - and donate it to the KCMo City Commission's office.

Are those your photos?
I was out there that day, and pretty much any open track day since announcement of closure. A very sad day indeed. Did you hear the entire story of what the city did to Todd Bridges and the track owners?

No - those aren't my photos. I had family staying over the Thanksgiving holiday and couldn't get there for the final day - but the photos links was in someone's Email.

Yes, I have all the Emails that KCIR sent out as things were falling apart, and some local news media links. It's a sad story - the track owners fought back, but no joy. You could share any local KC news about what really happened, though. A dirty piece of business, I hear. The city bought a $1.5 million flood plain - and they don't have money for their schools.

I'm sure that the city needed another soccer field and city park next to an existing soccer field and city park. Funny though - in the years that I went there on the weekends, I never saw anyone using the original city park on the other side of the creek.

EDIT Another link w/info on the KCIR closing:

KCIR Is a sad story, I have read quite a bit about it the last few months. Sorry to see it go. For me, GIR is opening back up in the spring, so there will once again be something close to me..about 4:30 from KC though..

Import Face-Off coming to Heartland Park Topeka in 2012

The only good thing to come out of the closing of KCIR is that Import Face-Off is coming to Topeka on Sep. 2nd 2012 - but not to Tulsa this year - I wonder if we got their time slot?:

I also hear that the VAMP series is coming back to Topeka... It's a mix of Street Legal and bracket racing. I was thinking about signing up with them last season, but too many car issues.

How do those classes work? Run 12s and you can't run anything else? Just whoever closest to 12.00 wins?

Sounds interesting, a monthly trip to KS would be pretty fun, friends would be like why are you going to KS every month? "Because Racecar"

VAMP rules link: http://www.kcir.net/pdf/vampRules.pdf There's more web links if you Google "VAMP racing series".

There's a bunch of classes with something for everybody..... and heads-up start with mufflers required. The organization is based in Missouri.

A monthly trip to Kansas - hmmmm... that could be fun, but I was thinking about making a few of the IFOs around the Midwest - just for the scenery that comes with each one.

I hear there's a few in Texas.

Yup, the max will definitely be down for IFO AMS this year anything within a 12hr drive is a "probably" for me, anything within a tank of gas of driving is a "definite" hell yes.
