I have a 2011 maxima prem tech package. i have the full glass roof with it and i notice a cracking sound for the past month now when i hit a little bump on the road or entering a parking lot. It sounds to me like it coming from the roof behind my driver seat. Was wondering if anyone else had this happen before?

 

Yes, mine does it as well. I believe there are some other posts on this subject as well. There are a lot of mechanical linkages to open the sunroof, which I'm sure isn't tolerance tight. The glass roof isn't meant to be structural so there will be slight body movement. You'll find that the noise happens more when transitioning from a high/low surface.
It is a bit annoying trying to understand if its a bad thing or not, but like almost every car, there will always be that rattle or squeek somewhere.

I'm not worried about it, but others could be.
Others will chime in on this subject, I'm just basing my observations with assumptions.

 

yup. some people expect there car to be perfectly quiet. even my dads s550, a $100k car has slight interior noises sometimes.

 

Mine had that cracking noize around 5000 km and it started to vibrate when I opened or closed it. Got it in the dealership and 3 days after it was all good. The tech advisor told me that they changed the hole mechanism because it was not properly aligned, anyway, never heard the cracking noise since then!

 

to the best of my knowledge this problem has been occurring since the 2009 prem. Search the forums as i have read many threads on this issue. I know some people were complaining of costs up to $4100; good luck

 

For me, they eventually had to remove the headliner and tighten some bolts. It sounded good for about 1.5 years, but now I am noticing a few pops here and there.

I guess it's just something ill have to live with.
