Back at it again...cooler weather = win

So I just got back from another Wednesday test and tune. Hardly anyone there running which was nice as you could get as many runs as you wanted in. My car is the same minus new NGK Platinum plugs compared to last time.

Unfortunately I couldn't beat my previous ET of a 14.4, but I did improve on my MPH!

Best ET

60ft.......2.275
330ft.....6.148
1/8........9.337
1/8mph...77.43
1000ft.....12.097
1/4..........14.448
1/4mph.....98.12

Best MPH was a 98.45

slip:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...119_005146.jpg

I ran several 14.4's and a couple 14.5's and 14.6's. Just simply couldn't 60' any better than a 2.2. I tried dropping tire pressure to around 22lbs and back up to 33lbs. Didn't seem to make much difference.

Temps were 51F with relatively low humidity and just a minor crosswind of 6 mph. I ended up lining up with my buddy in his '04 G35 5AT Sedan. He has K&N, Z Tube, and removed resonator. Every pass I would beat him by .1-.2 on the ET but he would always trap 1 mph higher than me.

Mods:
K&N drop in filter
GAB
NWP VIAS
NWP Spacers

I have my previous runs discussed here:
http://forums.maxima.org/1-4-1-8-mil...ack-1-4-a.html

Overall I'm VERY happy with my 98mph traps. I have yet to go back for my 3* timing bump. With lighter 16" wheels and some sticky tires I'm confident I can see 14.2's maybe 14.1's@99 and with the timing I think a 100mph trap is possible given the same track conditions.

98mph is good, once you can get those 60's down you can beat those times..... should be able to pull 2.0 60's on street tires with n auto

Yeah the track prep last night was average at best. I would stall up as high as the stock converter allows and just let it out at WOT from the tree. It would hop once and spin for half a second then sharply grab and pull through first. Given my tires and track conditions I really doubt I could have done any better. The G35 should be a better platform for 1/4 mile and his 60's were usually worse than mine.

I disagree on the G35 being a better "1/4 mile" car those things are 14sec babies, unless you boost em, they find it extremely difficult to break 13's N/A smh....... hopefully you are manually shifting cause it helps a lot no matter what anybody says... try again... 98mph is definately power for lower ET's

Congrats on your new MPH...I will hit a 1/4 mile sometime after March or a 1/8th sooner but feel it will be a waste on the 1/8th....

I'm liking that mph. Almost 10mph more then me yet I had the same mods . Must be the good Texas weather.

I'm planning on going to the track this spring to hopefully hit low 14s if my tranny doesn't blow up in the process.

Nice mph thats pretty strong and nice job from the 95mph of previous. Looks like cooler weather is doing you good.

What tire pressure did you end up at running your best time?

Well I'm in Kansas and it was like 84 out with 45% humidity. I don't think my car is really down on power, but just the weather causing the problem.

I have a feeling it's my tranny that is causing the problem since it slips

Yeah I'm quite confused. I have beat my friends 03 mustang gt that was a manual but only mod was cold air intake. I also have kept up with my other friends 04 mustang gt that has a lot more mods.

I'll find out in a couple months when I go back to the track.

But hustle you probably just had a strong engine that didn't have 156000 miles

Now that I look back on his times and traps.. if he did som good weight reduction he could possibly break 13's as is I had lower traps, in fact I had a 14.0@97mph... and 13.9@99... a good 2.0 and minor weight reduction n you can enjoy 13's

Well I'm jealous. My friends laugh at me when I say my car can break into the 13s. They assume just because its fwd and a v6 it won't be fast.

I'm assuming pulling a 2.0 requires launching over 2k?

I too believe if I started yanking out the interior and found some lightweight wheels + rubber I could cut a 2.1 60' or maybe a 2.0 which should net me low 14's to high 13's. The problem is the stock stall on the 4AT. Even the other night I wasn't spinning much once I left the tree. The tires would screech for half a second and then hook and that's with as high I could stall it up off the line.

But seeing as this is my daily driver I'm not real interested in gutting it and modding the crap out of it to squeeze into the 13's or whatever. I enjoy doing minimal mods that allow the car to still retain a stock feel or better than stock appearance as well as sounding mostly stock. My Z is a 125+ mph car and that's where I look focus my efforts on truly going fast.

Did you run at SAR? Temple Academy actually close this year until March due to low attendance.

Its my daily also, my weight reduction was a spare tire n back seat, surely that's nothing much...

'Course not. I too rock no spare, jack, & tools. The back bench is maybe 8-9 lbs so I don't mess with it. I'll go back sometime soon and try for better. Hopefully with the timing bump and better traction I can see low 14's if its still cool outside when I run.

Keeping up with a car from a roll is very comparable for mph sake..just not ET.
