Question How much is Maxima worth?

So, I have been thinking of possibly selling my car, I was wondering how much you all think I should post it for- lowest i should sell it for?

What it's worth to you, and what it's worth to someone else who wants to buy it are two different things.

Here is the response I made to your other thread regarding this contemplated sale:

Yes, the sticker price for the '10 Premium plus Tech was around $39,500, and the sticker price for that same car today is around $42,000.

BUT:

You did not pay sticker price, and most buyers will know this. You should have been able to drive this car out new for around $34,500 (I did). Less than that if Nissan has a deal going. Should you sell the car for $26,500, that means you drove a beautiful car for around 30,000 miles for $8,000 bucks.

Although Maximas usually last well over 100,000 miles, most folks consider the true useful market life of a car to be 100,000 miles. You have used almost one third of of that 100,000 (and easily the best one-third). And at the price you are being offered, it will have cost you less than one-fourth what you should have paid for it. That is a very favorable ratio.

Numbers can be twisted any number of ways, and your local market can shift things either way. Of course the condition of the car is also a factor, and some buyers will give added value for your additions, while others would subtract because of them. And remember that when the 8th gen arrives (spring of '13 as the '14 model year or spring of '14 as the '15 model year), all 7th gens will drop somewhat in market value, because they will be an 'old' design.

But when you consider the things I have mentioned here, you should feel the price you are being offered is not a bad price at all. Could you do better? Maybe. But a better offer might not be made very soon. There is no way to know.

Just my opinion.

I feel 27900 is a fair selling price since I have all the mods too, I think it's great deal for the buyer and somewhat fair selling price for me..

I got an offer for 26500 with out the stock rims. I think I should be able to get at least 500 for the set? Not sure???
But if yes, well then I am getting close to what I am shooting for, so I might just let it go for 26500...

It just sucks that I am gonna loose $ on the mods, and I do not feel like taking them since I had to pay not only for the parts, but install too...

Hey thanks for your reply. I agree...

I just hate giving away all the mods practically for free...
Parts and install cost me at least around 3500!!! This is what bothers me the most. Plus the car is in great shape with all services done @ Nissan - oil change every 3k miles... Its been babied and really all the miles are HWY too!

Thanks again

I have never sold stock wheels, so can't answer that. If I were you, I would find out what the dealer sells them for, and what folks are selling them for on ebay. If on ebay, look only at wheels that have not been used. These wheels are not cheap.

You lose money on a car, especially if it has mods. Depending on mods it can actually hurt the value of the car, not increase it. That's why alot of people de-mod their cars and sell their parts on the classified section here on the Org to recooperate their money. On average, expect to get half of what you paid for a mod, if it's in good condition.

There is no way having mods can decrease the value. Yes I get It, if I sell them on my own I can save more and attract more buyers, but no way there would be a decrease in car value. Sorry I disagree!

thanks

in a way it can. not every person on earth may like the mods, so in their mind, it lessens the value of the car.

My friend, we are not talking about everyone. Not everyone buys Nissan or better yet a Maxima as their preference. People buy BMWs, Benz, Audi, VW, Acura, etc... And some buy Kia, Toyota, Honda, etc...

The point is when someone is actually interested in what your marketing and offering and they LIKE IT, or are INTERESTED, then they like and value what you got...
Therefore, it does not decrease it's value, it actully increases it.

Hope you do not take my point the wrong way, I put a lot of thought, time and money into the car-vision and I Strongly believe it increases value to someone who likes what they see than decreases it.

Thank you

I'd have to agree that mods usually decrease the value of a car. The ONLY way it doesn't is that if you find that 1% of the market looking for those kinds of mods. If I looked at your car my first thought would be that I'd be spending $600-1000 on new struts. and another couple of bills taking off the front lip. But if that 1% comes alng then you're set.

Man if I were you, I'd take this car. The color is nice and it has nice mods. Plus it's well taken cared of. If I was looking for one, I'd go with this. All you have to do to this car is paint the lip white, black out the grill, get the headlights done, add an OEM spoiler, debadge it, paint the door handle and the chrome above the license plate white and your good.

I am in northern Va in fairfax about 25 min or so from DC.
27500 is an awesome price, you know you're getting a steal-basically all the mods are costing (0).

Let me know if you are serious, it's just that this guy wants to by next week and stuff...
I am not in a rush to sell it, meaning I am not in need of $.
But I do like to have it sold with in 3-4 weeks.

Honestly I like to give the car to someone who can appreciate it and someone in the forum that be a +

Pm me I'll email you my info #, etc..

not necessarily true. if i saw a modded up car for sale (especially looking performance-ish) id assume the driver also pushed it hard instead of babied it. so me personally id assume that your car vs a stock car of the same mileage had more wear and tear because it was modded up, and the assumption is that modders drive their cars fast/hard.

like said above, you narrow your market that you can sell it to. you can make more money parting it out and selling it stock honestly but i understand not wanting to take apart your baby. of course there does seem to be interest posting on a forum where people like to mod so good luck with your sale!

As far as the mods; I do not think I have really much of anything that hardcore to make it seem like I have pushed the car.

All I have is an intake, springs and a sway bar. The rest are all cosmetic.
Anyhow, most people especially on this site should not be looking at my mods negatively as we are all into some-most of these basic mods...

If anything I am honest and not taking them off by misleading the market.
I have nothing to hide, any educated buyer is more than welcome to have it looked at before buying any car to check into their concerns...

But again, yes I understand how some or a lot people would assume that stuff...

Thanks

That's not far for the right deal. I went 600 miles to get mine and would do it again. Go get it and enjoy the ride back.

And you're wrong. I'd skip your car completely if I had others to choose among. To mirror Ghozt, mods suggest an enthusiast driver. That's the last thing I want in a used vehicle. Moreover, I don't like your mods, and even if I did, I can't verify on a whim whether they were installed properly, or whether you'd done other less visible things that I may not like.

So, yes, absolutely, your mods would lower the car value for me.

I would travel 600 miles for a car from a dealership, not private seller though. At least at the dealership it would most likely be cpo or come with a 30 money back. But to travel that far to look at a car from a private seller is not something I would like to do.

I am pretty sure you you do not have a 30 Day money back guarantee, No dealership does that. lol

I was referring to how a dealer would look at it. I worked at a high end/luxury/sports car dealership for over 11 years, so that way of thinking is hard to break.

To a fellow Maxima enthusiast, the mods can bring more money when selling it to a private owner, but to a point.

I bought mine from a private seller after going 600 miles to get it. The car I bought is under warranty as is this one and the private seller actually knows the car better than the dealer. I would not trade my experience in buying my car from a private seller for an experience with a dealer. For the dealer, its just one of many cars that the dealer probably got at an auction and has no clue how well it was taken care of or the history of the car.

I would not trade my experience in buying my car from a private seller for an experience with a dealer. For the dealer, its just one of many cars that the dealer probably got at an auction and has no clue how well it was taken care of or the history of the car.
++++++ So so So agree.

I love buying a used car from the private seller, this way you meet the person you are buying the car from and you can find out how he/she took care of it, what kind of person you are dealing with, etc...
mainly from the 1st original owner of course!

when you buy from the dealer, we have no idea whatsoever where it came from etc...
