!HELP! Tranny Issue

im new to the forums and this is my first maxima.
i have a 95 se 5 speed.

the problem im having is when i put the car in gear and release the clutch pedal i can feel the car shake really bad as if the tranny is going to fall off.
im almost positive its the clutch but dont want to change it if it doesnt need to be done. can anybody help me?
the car drives fine in everyother gear but 1st and reverse. its only when the clutch is engaged. any help would be greatly appreciated.

sounds like a warped flywheel to me
either way the trans has to be removed

It may be a defective clutch disc or pressure plate too. But like you said, the transmission will have to be pulled to diagnose it any further.

Clutch is chattering from hot (hardened) spots in the flywheel/pressure plate. Replace the clutch assembly and resurface flwheel. Some flywheels get bad enough the hardened spots cant be cleanly cut by the machine shop.

Could also be that the clutch is not fully engaging, check the movement of the fork while someone else pushes the clutch, make sure it's traveling as it should.

thanks for the responses guys, i knew joining this forum was a smart move.

well i didnt drive the car for 2days now just drove it today cause it was beautiful out and the chatter seemed to get better, i did alittle more research and realized it was the clutch/flywheel.

the movement on the slave is good but im going to change it anyway,i should be taking the tranny off this weekend by myself lol.

i ordered slave/master exedy stage 1 clutch and im going to resurface my flywheel hopefully thatll do it. i will keep you guys posted

The link in my sig might help if you're going to R+R your trans ... I put together a little something, you'll just have to scan over most of it (rebuilding trans) but I talk about the clutch too ... hope it might help. Really not a bad job to R+R our tranys ... can do mine now in about 3 hrs - with beer breaks!

Change the clutch and make sure the flywheel gets remachined. Clean both the flywheel and pressure plate thoroughly with brake cleaner before installing the new clutch.

Avoid shuddering the clutch (rev a little higher if need be) for a while to let the new clutch break in.
