Yep, it is not a kit, I made it myself. Regardless, it does its job and I'm satisfied with it.

I put in a short ram intake today in my I30T. Since there's not a lot of stuff for us, I decided to take the cone I was going to put on my old car, forced the adapter to fit on the MAF and voila I have a SRI....



The car now sounded nice, temperature was a lot lower, and I even felt a gain in MPG. It was all good, except there was one small problem... It was getting hot air from the engine. Now this is where things get officially ghetto.

I ordered insulation from Amazon. It isn't house insulation, it is meant for car type stuff. They claim it can even be used as dynamat but I'm not getting into that. I cut it up, and made myself a heat shield. Then we have our final product here.







Now the car takes in cold air. No more engine heat. It's now a fun to drive car, and it sounds like a Nissan Z. Total price for this mod - $50.

I know people do this type of stuff all the time, but I don't see much activity here in the Infiniti section so I thought why not.

Wouldn't you want the reflective side facing away from the filter?

I thought the same thing too before installing it, but then I realized this; On the windshield sun shades that some people buy to reflect the sun rays, the part where that has the cross hatches, that's usually the part that reflects the sun's rays. So if I want to reflect the heat, then the cross hatches should be pointed towards the outside.

Instead of circles, it is diamond cut. I drove it today for 4 hours, the insulation doesn't get hot on the "reflective" side. The filter stays cold and the engine is hot like always so that proves that it works. My temperature gauge is at a quart whereas before it used to be at half. There's no feeling of sluggyness or apparent loss of low end torque, so all proof leads to show that the idea worked as planned. On the plus side too, if I don't drive aggressively, I get better MPG. We all know hot air = less mpg and less air = less mpg. Once again proves the idea worked. I would post numbers, but I don't have hard evidence, just receipts of fill ups beforehand. If that pleases people, I can post comparos or w.e.

I'm just telling my experience. Pardon me if it bothers you. You do have a point as my friend has a Pontiac with an SRI in a similar set up but his temp read out is the same as it was with a stock air box, but mine isn't. I'm not saying "install an SRI and your engine will run cooler". I do think the removal of the stock air box does have something to do with it, whether it's because it is pulling more cold air or because there's a big gap between the battery, cone and engine where more cold air travels. Like I said, I'm just showing what's working for me. Maybe for you something else will work, who knows, but if your idea doesn't work you can always try mine. That's what the thread was about. A new take on light performance mods.
