Tire Pressure Monitoring System

Does any one know which reading from left to right the reading on the dashboard for the TPMS refer to which tire ?

I can't find it in the manual but it just seems pointless to be able to read it but not knowing which tire it refers to....

Yes, I only found that out by playing with the tire pressures. It's not documented in the manual.

I traded an 08 TL for my 12 SV Sport/Sport too. So far, I really miss my TL.

yeah its two different type of cars... I miss the TL-S because how it was built but grew tired of it as I had it for almost 4yrs and wanted something different and newer sort of speak.

my 09 just shows the (!). Problem is, the car died the other day when I was listining to music and now it wont go away. Last time I took it to the dealership, the messed with some of the plastic by the trunk realse button. It was all pushed out and I had to pop it back in. I didnt notice it untill 3 days later when I went to clean the car so it was to late to say "hey, wth". I wish there was a way to reset it ourselfs. Everything checks out 33psi.

Uhh...everyone needs to be kinda careful with the TPMS on these cars because it is full of lies. My TPMS light comes on at 33psi. It isn't suppose to turn on unless a tire pressure drops below 27. I plugged in the Autoenginuity and logged the pressure sensors (which were all reading 26-27psi) and immediately checked the tire pressure with two gauges and all the tires were at 33-35psi.

Late,
Trav

That is disappointing. I would not like that. The few times my TPMS light has come on, my pressure actually had dropped to around 28 to 29 psi in one tire. This tended to happen with the first real break in weather in the fall. A tire that measures 33 psi on our normal 95 degree summer days can drop below 30 psi when the outside temp drops down in the 40s.

Since I moved up to 37 psi in front and 35 psi in rear, I no longer have to bother with the TPMS, and the tread wears more evenly with my style of driving.

Sometimes it comes on when there is a change in temperature. The 09 Model has the (!) symbol, but doesn't clarify which tire unfortunately. Although, it is recommended that you check the tire pressure atleast 1-2x a month for safety O.

What PSI is everyone running to get the most out MPG when you are doing along Road trip?

I have been running 36 or 37 front and 35 rear since the late 1990s. I do that because it gives me crisp handling and results in even tire wear for my style and type of driving.

I had always assumed running the higher (than the recommended 33) psi would result in better MPG, but I have read two recent studies that tested for this, and they found that, as long as the tires were at recommended psi, increasing the pressure had very little affect on MPG. By contrast, dropping the psi below the recommended level resulted in a measurable reduction in MPG.

So 33psi or anything greater evidently gives pretty close to the same MPG.

I would recommend not running with a psi over 40, because that is reaching the point that the tires tend to bounce on bumps instead of absorbing them, which can make for a dangerous situation, especially on curves. Also, a psi over 40 is reducing the tire footprint (part of tire in contact with the pavement) to a smaller area, and that begins to affect the tire's grip on the road, hence increasing stopping distance, ability to take curves at speed, etc.

This is very strange. I just picked up a 2012 and my second position is LF. It was 5lbs too high, and I checked on of the tires for the second position and LF was the culprit. I let some air out and the second number now matches the rest. I don't see how this system could be installed out of order but maybe mine has.

Hmm..I got mine about 3 weeks ago (but only saw it for the weekend as my parents hanging onto it, but its coming down to ATL today for me!!) and all 4 readings were at 41/42. I didn't know if the TPMS is inaccurate or the dealership really inflated them too high, but I am going to go tomm at get the fronts at 37 and rears at 35

I saw in the manual that the position on the screen doesnt indicate a specific wheel. I think it shows up in the order in which it receives the signal from the wheels. That may not always be the same.

Dont make the mistake i did with the tpms sensors by putting metal caps on them. Turned out to be very expensive... Im new to board and own a 2011 nissan max super black sports package.

What happened when you put the metal caps on them? Please elaborate. I was thinking of getting metal caps for them.

I would tend to agree with you. Each sensor has a unique ID, but how does the car know what position each sensor is in? What happens after you rotate the tires? If initially a sensor was associated with specific position, after rotation, the display sequence would no longer correspond to actual location of the wheel.
If this is true, having actual tire pressures displayed is marginally better than just the (!) light. I would still like to have pressure readings.

Interestingly enough, my manual and DVD that came with the car reference non-existing functionality about displaying pressure readings

I dont know about this.....everytime I see the readings and its something like 35 37 36 35, it drives me nuts that they arent all the same. So I have to get out my pressure gauge and figure out which ones need a little taken out of them to get them the same.

I know thats kind of OCD, but it wouldnt be an issue if I only had the light!

With recent cold spell in NE, the (!) light came on. Every time this happens while I drive, I get paranoid, whether its just a slight drop of pressure or a puncture and active leak. I think I would still take the pressure display, if just for this specific case. But I can relate to your OCD, I am not far behind you

Agree I'd rather have the numerical display for peace of mind

The cars are shipped to the dealer lots with pressure at near 40 so the tires avoid flat spots. Once you bleed them a bit, they should be stable. Part of the delivery process should include doing that for you, but they forget, and if you have a gauge it is no big deal.

On a related note, I had one tire show up at 15 pounds suddenly one day. No warnings from the computer. I just happened to notice it because I enjoy pushing buttons to cycle through the options. A quick can of Fix-A-Flat solved the issue ever since, but it sounds like this system has a few kinks, based on what other people experience.

The rule of thumb is that tires lose about 1 psi a month and 1 psi for every 10 degrees F temperature drop. I check the car TPM pressure display against my accurate gauge and find them within a psi.

I seem to recall reading something in the manual about NOT using things like Fix-A-Flat. It negatively affects the TPMS. Page 5-5 of the 2012 manual states this:

Do not inject any tire liquid or aerosol
tire sealant into the tires, as this may
cause a malfunction of the tire pressure
sensors.

Also, according to Nissan, there is no specific order to the tires on the TPMS display. Page 2-19 of the 2012 manual states this:

The order of tire pressure figures displayed on
the screen does not correspond with the actual
order of the tire position.

Oh crap! But it has been stable for a few months now. Maybe I got lucky.

I seem to recall that the display screen had indications of LF, RF, etc...I'll have to look again next time I get in the car.
