Car hard starting questions???

I've searched around and I still need some help. My baby has been doing this for close to a year and a half now and it's getting progressively worse. Some days it takes me to turn my key a few times for her to start and other days it starts as it should. I noticed at time the car begins to have a rough idle at stop and than goes away. To me it sounds like a fuel issue ( pump or filter ) but I've read some where that these cars really don't require work in that department. My question for you guys is can were can I start to look for problems? I am not tossing any codes either.

Infiniti i30 issue

Hey there - did you ever get this figured out? I'm surprised no one posted any kind of response to you...

I have a 2000 I30t and it is doing similar things. My idle has gotten progressively worse (i.e. more rumble, not as smooth) but still stays around 750rpm (which I think is normal?). I have about 140K miles on it and haven't done much maintenance on it, other than oil changes and fluid checks... replaced the coil ignitions a couple of times (different issue), maybe one of the MAF sensors (i think there are two).

Not sure at all what causes my car to start 1 out of every 3-5 tries. Ignition switch?? I had the starter replaced a year ago and it isn't ticking... more like a grinding noise when trying to fire it up.

Let me know man!

Quite a few people have been battling this same issue for quite some time.

I documented most of my struggle in this thread here:
http://forums.maxima.org/5th-generat...n-learned.html

About six months ago, the car pretty much healed itself and was behaving perfectly. This seemed to coincide with me switching to 89 octane fuel as an experiment. Startups were absolutely flawless until about a week ago, and now it's worse than ever.

For what it's worth, I do NOT think that the fuel has anything to do with it and was purely coincidental.

Thanks Montego! I almost don't know where to start after reading through all of that other thread. Also my engine isn't really sputtering on startup... More like a grinding similar to what happens when you keep an ignition engaged after starting... Ya know? Bueller? Anyone? Seriously tho... Appreciate the finger point in the right direction.

If you switched your starter already, then maybe the fuel filter in the gas tank. Before doing that try switching to another brand of gasoline or a different station.
