riding on air

This seems the only logical solution for my 4th gens weight issue. Between batterys, wire, sound deadner, sub and box, and amps im currently about 500lbs over stock. I might be adding a few hundred more.
Ive priced bag kits that are supposedly true bolt on for 2500-2800. Has any one pieced a kit together for alot less? Im looking to improve my ride a tad and level the car back out.

if you drive your car daily, air ride is not going to be your best bet. I used to have air suspension in a previous car and as much as i wanted to drive it daily i couldn't. too much to worry about with the lines/compressor breaking, some maintenance, and the list goes on and on.

if you really want to just level the car out, you can always go for a helper spring or an air strut in the rear.

Or coilovers on full stiff.

I saw some helper kits that actually rest inside your stock coil but still required a compressor. i could be wrong tho. I dont drive it to much. maybe 8-10k a year. the only time i drive far is to shows.once a month maybe an hour and a half to 3 hours each way. and twice a year 5-8 hours each way.

If you're trying to level the car out, why not get coilovers as suggested? And if you have to you can get custom spring rates when you order to compensate for your increased weight so your dampers have the proper valving.

I second this, my previous car had air ride... I had a tendency to drive it too hard and sure enough out went one of the bags... Also I had my two amps, my 15, and custom box... So my advice is take something other than bags, only solid reason for bags is to raise your car for speed bumps if you're that low

I had a full air ride system in my VW. It was awesome, except for the 50% of the time when it wasn't.

The easiest solution is helper bags in the rear, with a simple schraeder valve. Fill it up when you need it, let it out when you don't. You can add a simple compressor with no tank if you want adjust-ability for a show.

A full blown air ride setup is great if you are willing to do the maintenance and upkeep.
That is draining the water from the tank weekly, line inspections, bag inspections, and occasionally oiling the valves.
It really sucks to blow a line or bag when traveling.
