On the passenger side of this model engine, there is a small solenoid that powers a butterfly valve that varies the length of the air intake before the manifold. The little plastic clip deteriorates over time and the push rod separates from the valve. Nissan wants over $100.00 for the valve assembly and does not sell the clip alone.... but I do. I have one of these engines and after listening to that valve rattle, and pushing the actuator rod through what was left of the plastic clip for the umpteenth time, I went looking for a repair option. This is it. This clip installs in seconds and restores functionality to the Power Valve.

Yup... rattles drive me bonkers.

 

Although most would just remove the VIAS all together which gains some power, this is another great option at a good price for those that want to retain it.

 

Clip didnt fix my "rattle." I'm thinking i'm pinging or another part of this mechanism is rattling. So annoying to hear since its under light throttle on city roads. Swapping my MAF (2001 w-mod/)plugs and hoping for the best.

 

Probably your timing chain tensioner then. But before that, remove the vias and see if those 2 little screws are backing out.

 

The MAF took care of most of the noise and brought some pep back. I have the block off plate in hand, so I might just remove the VIAS for S*&%$n giggles.

Not from this thread, but I ordered the same type of clips on Amazon that are for door locks and they work just fine. $4 for an assortment.
