OK this may be a stupid non Max ques but I figured you guys would know. My Be-otch just got 2002 Corolla which she wants to lower. She's not planning on keeping the car for more than 2 or 3 yrs (she want's a spec-v sentra) Anyways, is there some kind of formula to figure out how much of the spring to cut. I only want to lower it 1.3-1.5" or so. Will the ride suffer? Is this a bad idea?

I take it bake. It's ok that you don't have a five spd.

 

He cut a coil off the front of his Intraxs. With those springs his car looks sweeter than any other Maxima (and you know it Jay!). However I don't know if doing this to stock springs is such a good idea. The car will most likely bottom out because the ride will still be very bouncy. With aftermarket springs you get a firmer ride, with less travel so you can cut them and still wind up okay. But I'm not sure about this, talk to JAY25 - he's the king of cut springs .

I got cut coils and so do other maxima owners here, but stock springs are made a bit different. But here lets see if this helps look under her fender well look at the springs and look at the top of the spring and at the bottom of the spring if you notice any spring touching each other at the begining or at the end of the spring then you can safely cut one coil off and test it out. If your not happy with the drop and still rides good then go to cutting in quarters or maybe halfs. One full coil is one complete circle. 1/4 of that coil is the quarter and half of that coil is half of the coil. I got the tip from a guy that races cars here and has been doing it for the longest time. I only cut one coil off. If you slam that sucker coilover look kiss the ride goodbye it wont be too comfortable at all. And you may want to change shocks as well. Choice is yours.
