Clutch Replacement- Help

I had what i thought was a throwout bearing making a slight rattling noise and opted to get the clutch replaced on my car.

I purchased an Exedy clutch kit for the car(OEM replacement) and had it installed along with getting the flywheel resurfaced. The clutch was staying depressed and we are thinking it is the master cylinder that is not allowing the clutch to snap back into place. In the meantime I have a spring holding it to get clutch action(which is working) until I do replace the master cylinder(because this should operate hydraulically).

My major concern is that the clutch feels so much softer. Has anyone that has replaced their clutch with Exedy experienced this? Is it meant to be to a softer petal feel? While the car drive normal- the clutch is just so soft and I would have expected it to get more firm.

Please advise or throw in your $.02. Thanks in advance.

Is the clutch plate sprung or unsprung?

If the clutch is sprung, that would partly explain the soft feel to the clutch. Sprung clutch plate + dual mass flywheel = No bueno.

Also, have you checked the fluid level of your master cylinder? It could be low, or the fluid could be old...

It sounds to me like, if it's not the clutch and pressure plate, they may not have bled your MC properly...

The Exedy OEM replacements I'm pulling up look like they're sprung to me. Which would clash with your dual-mass flywheel. That would explain some of the softness of your pedal, but not the fact that it won't return from the floor.

^ OE clutch

^ Exedy. I'm guessing yours looks like this? The Exedy is pretty much the same thing as a stock 350z clutch and pressure plate if I remember correctly.

Exedy does make an unsprung oem replacement p/n NSK1002- i have one in my stash for future replacement. I read many posts before deciding to go unsprung and keep the stock dual mass flywheel rather than go sprung with a lighter single mass flywheel a la Fidanza. 95VQQ30-I seem to recall reading that several posters going Exedy OEM mentioned their new clutch felt softer at first, but the feel firmed up with use.
