My 01 Maxima with 61K miles,acted up the other day (on drive mode ,level road,high revs apx. 4000,but no more than 15-20mph) Did it for a mile ,got out of it after I restarted, then the same .Parked it at home trying to figure out what I could do to save the transmission.
I was told that I should have been changing the transmission fluid and filter (?) every 30k miles.The fluid level and color seem to be in order. I never heard that you should replace filter every 30,000miles . In any case , do I have a chance to save the transmission ? or is it too late . Hate to say this , butI do not trust the dealers .

At 4000 rpms it will do no more than 15-20mph. When I stopped at a stop sign, I went back and forth with the gears and then it started shifting again normaly, then after a mile it started again. By then I got home .Checked the level and color, smell, all seemed OK. I cant afford a costly transmission replacement cost, so I am hoping its something not to serious. Thanks

 

Hmmm, maybe the VB &/or solenoids.

No AT light? (do 00-01's even have that? )

SES light? If so, codes?

 

Sounds like limp mode except for the 4k rpm
