Tune up

My max has 130k on her 99 auto and was wondering what are good things to replace to have maximum power & mpg. I want to Keep this engine running mint as possible. Plan on bringing her in to get a tune up. What things should I replace?

Spark plugs with NGK go platinum part number 7090 if I'm not mistaken, air filter, fuel filter, oil, sea foam in crank case, fuel tank and intake manifold. That should take care of the tune up aspect of things. If you want more power with out the boost, Obx v2 5.5 headers, dek swap with egr delete, light weight pulley that's the same size as factory.

Sea Foam for the tank and intake.

Spark plugs ignite the mixture. After time the gap gets too big.

He should charge you 1 hr at whatever rate is posted on his wall. Shops vary, so call around.

Be careful, on one of my Maxima's I bought, the previous owner gave me a receipt which showed that he paid 3hr of time for a sparkplug and coilpack change...highway robbery.

In all honesty though, if you have basic tools, you could be doing all the maintenance yourself. You'll save a ton of money on labor.

You should have an extra set of coilpacks handy since those are infamous on 99s.

No joke man.. spark plugs are easy as pie to change on these cars... the cover under the hood with the nissan writing on it has the coils and plugs under it...thats a 5 minute job...the back are slightly harder.only due to limited space but shouldnt take no more than 35 minutes

Thinking about ordering spark plugs off ebay or amazon and have a mechanic put them on. I just don't mess with fixing my car myself. I rather just pay the labor, don't have patience for it.

Can anyone give me a website to get spark plugs off of and fuel filter? Im trying to buy the best one. And do mechanics due seafoam in there shops? I never seen a mechanic do it with all the smoke they cause and what not but i know it's def. worth it. It's safe for a engine with 130k on it right?

As long as you get NGK you should be fine. You dont need to get the cheapest ones and if you dont like maintenance like you said you should get the Iridium ones. THe most expensive but they last the longest as well. DO NOT SEAFOAM YOUR CAR as others suggested, it can cause alot more problems than it fixes. Coils are expensive but if you have the money then go to the dealer and get all new ones, don't get aftermarket as those fail with great frequency. An oil change is obvious. I would also change out your O2 sensors as well as your knock sensor. Drain a couple of quarts from your tranny and replace with new Nissan Matic-D that you can get from the dealer. Lastly, flush your radiator. DO NOT hook it up to a machine, just get the bottle from the auto parts store and do it that way. Im sure im leaving a few things out but if you do all of this then your car should run like new and you should regain quite a bit of your lost HP.

They monitor the amount of oxygen in your exhaust and tell the ECU how much fuel to add/subtract. New ones MIGHT be more sensitive than your old ones and allow you to run better. If you don't have a check engine light on, then don't worry about them.

No need to change o2 sensors or knock sensor, if there was something wrong with them you'd get an SES light. The old saying "if it aint broke don't fix it" works wonders, i know a lot of people that replace parts that are fine and end up with a problem on their hands from changing a part that worked as it should.
