cooling fans not cycling properly

Hi

I am having an issue where my cooling fans do not cycle as they should. Once they click on for the first time they do not turn off and on. I have checked the radiator hoses, which are fine. Had previously changed Tstat with my water pump swap. Car does not overheat whatsoever.

Thought the ECTS was at fault, replaced that, but it did not help. However, after doing this step I pulled the fuses for the fan and also the wire for gauge next to ECTS. After putting them back the fans turned off and began to cycle properly. About a couple hours later went to check on it and left it idling to see if they were ok, which they were, cycling as they should. Went for a short drive and after returning checked fans again, and this time they would not cycle and remained on. Pulled the relay for fan 1 and replaced it with an extra I had for my foglights. Again, the fans began to cycle properly. About an hour later went for another ride to test fans, and after returning fans would not cycle.

Due to the intermittent issue, looks like I am dealing with a wiring issue. Any ideas where to start looking?

Thanks for any advice.

Is your a/c compressor running?
A/c on = fan on

When the engine cools off, check the coolant level in the radiator, just in case it's low.

Level is good. No signs of overheating. Temp gauge is normal, no spikes. Radiator hoses are fine.

Spoke with a dealership and inquired about any ECU updates that may address this, but while there is one, the tech was unsure if it fixed anything related to my issue.

Drove today and the fans were cycling normal.

thanks for the replies.

whats a normal cycle? The cooling fans dont have a set time on when to come on or off. Fans come on when the coolant reaches a certain temp. Now when the ac is on the fans will run sometimes constantly to cool down the refrigerant. This is dependant upon the outside temp and/or the temp inside the car.Iif its hot outside then exspect the fans to run more after driving than having it sitting at idle when it's cool outside. Long story short. You have no leaks and you're not over heating and the temp gauge is reading correctly so everything must be working fine.

From my understanding a normal cycle would be about 45 secs to 1 minute. During checks ambient temps have been steady in the area, about 60F.

This morning fans tuned on and off within 45 secs after driving. Tonight after driving home the same distance as this morning fans were on and did not cycle off. Outside temp almost identical to temp in the morning +\- 2 degrees.

All checks were done with climate control off, no AC running.

thanks for the reply.

Your new coolant temp sensor could be faulty

You can test it yourself I just don't know the proper specs it should have.
