97 Maxima only starts if I add gas... 1st post
So I have a 1997 Maxima that has never given me any problems.
I had to have a new starter put in about 3 years ago.
Other then that... Just a new battery and new tires.
My Maxima is a beast
Probably in the last year or so, she's been having problems starting up.
When I go to crank the key, she makes a noise like she wants to start but doesnt... I have to add gas for the engine to start.
It doesn't seem to matter if it's winter or summer but it does seem to be the worse in the morning. (It still happens throughout the day
Any ideas what this could be and roughly how much it would be to fix this?
I'm trying to decide if it's time part ways with the beast or fix her up (hoping for nothing else to go wrong).
Thanks guys!!

Check the engine coolant temp sensor.
Check the cold idle circuit, specifically the plunger on the throttle body. Make sure it's opening the throttle body when the engine is cool.

Explain the noise more. Is it a grinding noise? A noise like the fuel pump? Sometimes the starter won't engauge the starter Solomon correctly and it can "grind" on the flywheel. Makes a God awful noise but if you stop and turn the key again it usually works then.
