hi, i have a 1999 maxima and its muffler is going to be bad (it makes a lot of noise).
i want to change all part from the engine to the rear, but the problem is that i am going to buy part and i do not know if the muffler of 2001 maxima can fit for 1999 maxima.
can help me please, and give me some advice about it, and how can i check both mufflers.

The muffler and hangers are the same size and shape, however the inlet pipe is much longer on the 00-03. Its not a direct bolt on. No you cant just install the 5th gen cat back either. I have a 01 muffler on my 98, I had to weld on a new inlet to match the original B pipe.

Also the bumper will need to be cut to fit the 2nd tip the 5th gen uses.

 

I have an OEM cat if youre interested. About 57k on it.
