I wanted to use the Metra kit 95-7416G for my 5.5 because it allegedly allows you to use the metal factory brackets, unlike the Scosche, and the color match is better than the Scosche. BUT, I can't see any way to get this thing to fit correctly.

The head unit is screwed in using the only holes that will line up with the factory brackets. I can't just move it around to use other screw holes since no others will line up. Also, as you can see, the screw holes on the Metra line up with the holes on the brackets, but that gap at the bottom...!

Have any of you experienced this before? What solution did you come up with?

I suppose I could flatten out the stamped recesses on the brackets and make the holes bigger/longer, so that the head unit can be moved down a bit, but I'd really like to avoid that if possible.

I'd love to hear your solutions if you have any!

you already answered your own question - use a dremel tool and elongate the current holes so you can slide the trim face down to close out the gap you currently have.

Another solution is to add material to the bottom of the faceplate (i.e. fiberglass), cut, sand, and paint to match......

Really? That is amazing. I don't see any way for that to happen in my case because the metal brackets don't flex at all. I put it in the car and it didn't improve one bit.

I talked to Metra about it and they were interested but had no solutions.

I ended up having to modify the #&$@(#$& out of the brackets to get everything to fit.
