Power steering pump replacement cost

I know there are a bunch of threads about power steering loss. But all of them are about the houses.

Today I went to hey my leak checked out and was told that the pump was bad and needed to be replaced.

I was told $356 for everything.

I told the dude not to do it because I want to double check with my other mechanic that I regularly go to. (came here for exhaust work, my mechanic doesn't do exhaust)

I'm still in the office waiting for the muffler to arrive and what not. But after doing a google search I found a new pump for $ 90.

Wanted to check and see if I'm getting screwed.

If that's your OEM power steering pump and its not making any noises, don't change it. If its just leaking, only the return hose needs to be replaced (one with aluminum shield). Yet to see an OEM pump leak...

Thanks for your input. Yeah the pump isn't making any noise unless its low on fluid, than it makes the usual sound.

I assume it is the oem pump, car only has 120k.

I had a feeling that it wasn't the pump that's why I told the guy not to do the work. Definitely going to get a second opinion on monday from my mechanic.

I asked another worker there if they can double check and I was told that it WAS the high pressure hose. They told me anywhere from $150-200 to replace.

I think I will go to my regular guy for that.

The hose itself is still good. Just replace the copper washer at $2/piece and you need 2 and problem solved.

O RLY?? How do you figure? I'm all for a $2 fix. Copper washer attached to what? The pump or the hose? Any Pics?

Inspect the top part of the hose and you will see there are two copper washers on either side of the hose. Its the same connection at the pump so replace the copper washers and tighten and leak will stop.

I tried finding the copper washers, and gave up. I didn't know what the hell he was talking about. My PS is still leaking.

I think the high pressure hose has banjo fittings with copper washers, and the return line just has hose clamps and push onto nipples.
