Parting out 97 Max SE

(Skip to next paragraph if you just want parts) So I took my car in to the mechanic for a slight cough (hesitating) and, long story short, she's terminal. They told me there may be a timing chain issue and the heads are damaged. They recommended a new engine since it already had 190k miles. I was pissed because when I got the car back, it was running terrible, all sorts of violent shaking, rpm all over the place, and the car would just die after 5 seconds. I told them WTF, but they tried to give me the ol' "it was like that when I got here." I thought maybe the head gasket got/was damaged if they took off the UM to check the heads, and that was what was causing the problems after the diagnostic, but they claimed they didn't really do a diagnostic, even though I dropped off the car on Thursday and picked it up on Tuesday, and then told me I had timing chain and head damage. What, they just got all that from turning the ignition key? Anyways, it really is a long story... this is very abbreviated. The one good thing that comes from this is I saw it as an opportunity to buy a 2012 Maxima. Got it today!

If there's not much interest for parts, I'll probably just sell it to a junk yard. I've never done this so any pointers would be appreciated (i.e. I was planning on getting the car towed back to my house and parting it out, then calling a junkyard to scrap the rest). If you guys know of a better way, please let me know.

Just let me know what you're looking for, and if you'd like pics, and where you're at for shipping and I'll let you know how much. I think pics will help. I'll try to get them soon. Thanks.

1. Get a new mechanic. I think they Effed up your car big time and are denying responsibility. 4th gen maxima can easily go 300K+ miles with regular maintenance. The timing chain never needs to be replaced, but the tensioners do. They probably went overboard and managed to destroy the bulletproof VQ motor.

2. Advertise your 4th gen for parts here;

Also, do you have the OEM sunroof wind deflector? If so, I GOT DIBS

And congrats on your new Maxima

Do you have the stock taillights or the red/clears? If red/clear, how much do you want shipped to 98296?

I would be interested in the console between the front seats. My car has a black interior, so I am interested if it is black. I'm in Plano so I would pick it up.

Find another mechanic. The vq doesn't suffer from timing chain issues or damaged heads? What did he identify as damage to the heads???
Your cough or hesitation is probably nothing more then a misfire from a bad coil pack.
