how many gallons does urs hold
HOW DO YOU KNOW it's from empty? Is the little orange gas light on? I too have a 99 SE and the most i was EVER able to get into it was 16.2 gallons. Which is after I drove for about 5 miles with teh gas light on.
When you run a car on empty, it's still not fully empty...there's always a little bit at the bottom of the tank.

Your tank would need to be totally empty...completely drained...to fit 18.5 gallons
Well can really careless how much it holds just tring to figured out my mpg..cause i filled that **** up with 14 sumtin and only got 153 miles out of here...***** is hard as hell on gas idk why no cel or nothing so..idk lol
Whether it holds 18.5 gallons or 30 gallons does not matter when figuring your MPG...all you do is divide miles driven by the number of gallons you put in so in your case thats... 153 miles by 14 gallons which gives you 10MPG...you got some serious issues if you are really getting 10MPG!!!! In order to calculate, you need to fill your car, reset your trip meter, then drive. Then at your next fill up, FILL the car and divide your miles driven by the gallons put in. If that still comes to 10mpg, you got bigger problems then how many gallons it holds.

I call
on those figures. At 10 mpg you'd be burning almost 3x the normal amount of fuel. That would cause some serious emissions issues (visable) and most likely plug up a catalyst really quick.
well i dont my figures and stuff but yea sad to say its what its getting no flooding plugs out no smoke now fumes are strong as hell but i checked for leaks nothing just messed up went from avrg 20 mpg and now like 11 or 12 mpg lol belive me its costed me alot past few days man it sucks imma check a few stuff then adjust a few things and go from there

I know that the 3rd gens hold 18.5 gallons, which was good for me when gas was low. I used to do 400 plus miles on a long trip mosly interstate and some city driving. I dont think that the 4th gens hold that much. Maybe 14 to 16 gallons. I get decent mileage in my 95 even tho i have yet to take her on an out of town trip to see what she can do. Gotta replace 02 sensor on the front.
The only way the gas tank would not hold 18+ gallons would be if it was dented or something like that.
Accuracy of the gas gauge system is far from perfect but reasonably close. The gas tank does not have perfectly flat and square surfaces which makes accuracy a problem.
I have driven my 97 to where the needle in the gauge is below the letter E and needed 17.5 gallons.
If you want to find out how much gas it will take to fill the tank, get a gas can and drive the car until it runs out of gas keeping your eye on the gauge so you will know how it reads. Then you will find out.

It was an advertised feature, surprised you never noticed.....
