I am a dofus :( P0705? I'm not sure..

what to do exactly or what it means. I just purchased a 1997 Maxima, automatic, and the OD light has been flashing each time I get in to it and start it up. It flashes sixteen times continuously with no pauses. They are all consistant flashes. The OD button also seems to be non-existant. I've tried to turn it on and off and just nothing seems to happen. It isnt shifting hard but when I get in to it, I mean if I floor it, it will get pretty close to 7k rpms before it shifts. It does this through all of the gears if I'm flooring it. I mean it seems fine but I thought that it seemed a bit high. It does shift out smoothly no matter how it is being driven but I didnt know if that would be a cause for concern as well? I hooked a scanner to it and the entire code read:

P0705 GENERIC TRANSMISSION RANGE SENSOR CIRCUIT (PRNDL INPUT)

I bought this car to keep but I am concerned about the transmission. Is it safe to continue driving it (obviously not like an arsehole)? There is no check engine light on nor is it throwing any other codes. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!
Shawn

Interesting problem...Here's some other threads to help out, since I can't really...

P0705 Transaxle range switch circuit malfunction (PRND321)

A monitoring switch is attached to the transmission where the shift cable attaches. This switch tells the computer what gear you selected. If the switch is out of adjustment, you will get
P0705 Transaxle range switch circuit malfunction (PRND321)
Here’s how to adjust the switch to get the codes to go away
1) set the parking brake
2 Remove the air filter box assembly so you can access the transmission range switch.
3) Turn the key to the ON position, but do not start the vehicle. Move the shifter to the neutral position.
4) Align the alignment holes between the switch and the shift lever. Insert a 5mm drill bit into the adjustment hole to verify the proper alignment for the neutral position.
5) If the bit won’t fit, the switch is out of alignment. Loosen the bolts and move the switch until you can insert the drill bit. Tighten the bolts to 96 INCH/lbs.
^^just found this using google search, I have NOT done it, and do NOT know if it's gonna work

Good luck!

yeah before i read amerikaner's post i was going to tell you that the TR (trans range) switch could be faulty.

it wont necessarily hurt your trans but if you dont fully engage park it may not start. but thats the only "major" problem you would see with this code.

P0705 Error

What I found this to mean with my 96 Nissan Maxima is the park neutral switch or sensor. My check engine light came on after I installed a push button start on my car to bypass the ignition . whatever he spliced I think caused the computer to read this.
Also my mechanic told me another thing that can cause that code to appear all of a sudden is if you leave your car running while you get gas.
He said it messes it up if the computer decides to do an intermittent scan. Hope that made sense. I may not be clear in explaining sorry.
