I'm on ebay right now looking at yellow top optima batteries and i ams slightly confused. I wanna wire my duralast gold top battery in the trunk and put the optima under the hood but I'm not sure if a yellow top will fit under the hood? I've got a 1997 nissan maxima GLE. I thought it would fit no problem but i figured id check on the forum just in case. Does the model matter would any yellow top fit my car? i was thinking a D35 yellow top

Also i would suggest getting it from a local retailer like Autozone.. they back up the 3 year warranty. That way if anything you can get it replaced.

IIRC u need a battery switcher and a voltage regulator too.

Bosch battery ftw for me. Got it for 85 bucks at PepBoys. 5.5 is size 24F though. Handles my 800 watt system like a boss and hasn't let me down so far

 

Trust me, i could use a second battery in the circuit because I've got a lot of electrical including a BEASTLY sound system.. 2 sets of hids which means 4 ballasts and two relay harnesses, 4 kicker ks65 speakers powered by a 600 watt hitron amp (amazing sound quality), and lastly but not least 0 gauge wiring going to the trunk, two mtx audio thunder square subwoofers powered by a 2000 watt hifnonics HFI2000d amp (serious bass). I plan on upgrading amp and subs to 15" subs soon and i need the extra battery first. I was a little confused last night about the optima batteries but i believe the yellow top will fit fine and ill put the gold top duralast in the trunk, thanks for the input guys

If you will, lets go over a couple things here. First, CrazxyDominican is correct, it is a much better choice to buy from a brick and mortar retailer than some internet seller. We find a lot of times, those people are not authorized retailers of our batteries and if you do have a warranty issue, it may be tough to local and deal with someone you dealt with via email and credit card.
Second, Is a duralast gold top a deep-cycle battery? For what you are planning, you should use a deep cycling battery in the trunk. Optima doesn't recommend mixing brands, sizes nor different age batteries, unless you isolate them. The YellowTop is a dual purpose deep-cycling battery and might be the better choice in the trunk if you are going to isolate.
Third, if you haven't already, you will need to upgrade your wiring and alternator or you may still have issues keeping both batteries properly charged.
Fourth, Regardless of what you do here, be sure to properly ventalite any battery you place in the trunk. Either use a battery with venting options or place a battery in a ventable battery box and be sure to vent that box or battery to fresh air. It is a safety hazard and health risk not to do this.

You've never heard of someone running two batteries? do you live under a rock or something..? anyways thanks for the input optima bill.. i upgraded my alternator and plan on upgrading the big 3 soon also, thanks for the tips on keeping the battery ventilated this project is still just a thought and i wanted some input. Im fine with everything for now but i wanted to get two 15's and a 2400 watt amp and i would need a second battery at that point for sure. I still can't believe that kid hasn't heard of running two batteries lol wtf back man

I would not buy an optima battery honestly they are over hyped. Reason being they were recently bought out n their design has not been the same. I work at Auto Zone an recently had 3 optimas come back bad WITHIN A WEEK!! Stick to duralast or everstart(had one last 5years believe it or not)

 

This. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying to not buy one. But they were bought out I wanna say 4-5 years ago and haven't been the same.

 

i had a yellow top die on me after 3 years, problem was the alternator died and the battery drained down to nothing killing it. optima replaced the battery even out of warranty and saved my a$$ 179.00!! its still a good name brand, you just can't abuse it, it's not like other battery's and can't withstand a charge, even a slow one. its never let me down, and the max has always started cold or hot so i stand by it. is it better than sears or duralast??? i think so, the other standard battery's cant hold a candle to it imo.

 

even if you drain your battery down to dead from a **** alternator, you can still charge the battery up if its got the tiniest bit of life left. i dont mean by running it. like an actual battery charger. handy to have.

i had it tested at advanced auto and it was dead, would'nt even hold a charge for more than a few miles and then thats when i discovered the alty was dead. so, i got lucky and they just gave me a new one

 

 

for the battery in the trunk you need a deep cycle battery.A regular battery in the trunk is worthless.Optima bill is right on the money with his comments.Your best bet would be to get a high output alternator as someone else said.

 

What are you using that you need two batteries one of which is dry cell? I had a honda with audio, HID, neons everywhere, dvd and any like you can think of and all I had was the yellow top and a 1.5 farad capacitor. Don't waste your money to run a 2nd battery int he trunk. Get that yellow top optima battery locally so that when you have to warranty it you won't have to ship it back costing you money and time which will defeat the purpose of saving. There's somethings you buy locally and there's some you buy online, and warrantied battery fall under local buys. Just a heads up batteries do sometime need warranty.

 

he doesnt even need a high output alt. honestly kid your sounds are not as big and powerful as what you think they are all you would need is a nice large capaciter and thats it. if wired in properly while the subs are being bridged down to 1ohm mono. theres no way you would need a second battery. people are to quick to add one and 0 guage wire all your running is 2600 PEAK watts. whats your rms rating and that being said it doesnt matter how many subs you have if the amp is only 600 watts. i could run 100 subs at 600 rms each but if i have a 200 watt amp im only using 200 watts and the subs are under powered. theres nothing wrong with using 0 guage wire but that doesnt effect your alt. or battery for that matter. your over confident of your subs at most all you need is a high output alt and a big capaciter. also word of advise i would be willing to bet two subs with a proper box and amp would be louder than the 6 your running now if you have a crappy box

 

i just read that you were upgrading to two 15 inch subs and a 2400 watt amp. 4 guage wire can handle that no problem and so can your stock alt and a good capaciter. you definatly dont need a second battery. and what kind of 15s who makes then and whats the rms rating

 

right now i have two mtx thunder squares in a factory spec box hooked up to a hifonics hfi2000d, 0 gauge wiring, i used to have a capacitor but i took it out capacitors are useless... and Kuhn_Man don't try to lecture me man, trust me i know what i need to know about sound systems, your rambling made almost no contribution to my original post. I am selling that setup and I'm still thinking of what i want to get, i know i want to get the hifonics brutus 2100, so that i don't need an extra battery. I am still doing research on which ones i want.
