2 degree timing advance
2 degree timing advance
Search yielded a bunch of results from previous gen's. How many 7th gen's have had their timing adjusted? There was a lot to read about it, but not much specifically for 7th's.
Anyone who's had it done care to tell me what you think about it? Pro's and con's?

i had it done while i was at the dealership several months back. its nothing amazing but i did notice in the lower speeds it was a little snappier. im sure its a lil quicker up top too, but i just noticed it more on the low end cause thats where our Max struggles a bit
Did you do this timing advance in conjunction with any other work when you were in at the dealership...and was it 2 or 3 degree advance?
I remember you mentioning getting the (TSB) RPM-bump on the CVT.
The reason I ask this is..... your car exists at a certain level of modification so is this timing advance even relevant performance and MPG wise to a 7th gen without your level of mods?
Also, (pending upon your reply to the above questions) if I walked in to my dealership what would I ask for regarding this timing advance?
Lot's of questions I know but I respect your experience and knowledge with the 7th gen. Thanks.
I got this done by itself, was a 2 degree timing advance to 17 degrees. Our stock ECU won't hold more than that. Advancing the ignition timing is one of the ways a tune makes the most of your mods, altering air/fuel ratio is the other. This is a small ignition advancement, but something nonetheless.
Depending on your dealership they make say "Wtf" or they make just charge you an hour of labor or something.

Funny, the first search result I got was http://premierhidlights.com/ and I actually know this site, I remember the search by vehicle options were set up very nice. Like the site says, don't be fooled into getting one of those cheap HID kits. I have experienced both now, well anyways, lol.

Back on topic...it seems to me that there is a small low-end gain to be had for a low price. Who wouldn't benefit from that? I think I'll be getting the timing advance done to mine next week and I'll report back.

and as someone who has been pushing Nissans for 14 years it means you MUST gas up on premium, better on 93 Octane when you advance the timing.
As far as I am concered the option to go to 89 to save money then no longer exists unless its a true emergency
Also I would not do it if I had only access to Cali/Arizona gas.

Is it just me or when I gun it quick..it doesn't move. But when I give it a little gas then gun it, then it moves..Will it solve this problem? I hate my dealership, and they hate me..So where else could I get this done (Diff Nissan I am assuming)..?
There are some consult emulators out there like the "Cipher"..which is a 400 or 500 bucks and adds to your PC.
But you cna use it again and again.

Timing is not an issue here....promise. It's just how to get the best acceleration out of the CVT.

I hear lots of people gripe about the low-end torque on the VQ35DE. I need an explanation on this. My previous 2007 Altima 3.5SE as well as my 2010 Maxima are the ONLY vehicles I have ever driven that can pull these fatty cars along without the need to go above 1500rpm (under normal driving). Maybe everyone else has an effed up motor, but mine loafs along at 1200 rpms while accelerating at a normal pace - up to about 30mph. The low-end torque on these engines are WONDERFUL IMO! My 2010 Tundra 5.7L isn't even close to being capable of this kind of low-end. I've never driven a V8 stang, but my Maxima never needs to go over 1200rpm until it reaches 40mph. Then it only does it because the CVT makes it.
I have Autoenginuity, which can also perform SOME work-support functions such as timing advance. I have advanced to 2º and gone back to 0º multiple times. I can tell absolutely no difference in power or fuel economy. If there is a difference, it isn't more than 7hp or so.

YOU, my friend, have just discovered the best way to convince the CVT to be awesome! After doing lots of fiddling with the CVT AND adjusting the timing from +2º to 0º to 1º, I can tell you that timing has nothing to do with it. Nissan has 700+ shift algorithms programmed into this thing....and it's a bit of an art to figure out how to make it shine.

any hints how to get the best out of CVT?
timing isnt the issue no, but a timing advance definitely helps along with other mods. if you really want to make this car noticeably faster just do full bolt-ons and get an Uprev dyno tune. a full tune includes a much larger timing advance as well as adjusted A/F ratios and the ignition timing advancement is where a great deal of the added power comes from. the +2 timing advance is a baby version of that with no A/F adjustments
I did my timing advance with my BD Power Pup and it does tend to snap off a little easier but other than that I really don't notice what else it did for the car also the benefits are not going to be blatantly obvious.
From a stop, hit it to the floor. Not much else you can do.
If the car is already moving, the thing I have found that makes a lot of difference is to snap the pedal to around 50-60% down. Leave it there for 2 or 3 seconds, the punch it to the floor. If you do that, then it will pop up to redline instantly. I have barked the tires at around 40mph...accidently before I figured out this was the secret.

yeah im working with a custom cai, cxj intake and throttle body spacers, cxj bops, stillen ud pulley, racingline y pipe, borla cat-back so when i got my 2 degree advancement it was a small but noticeable bump low end. from 50-100 this things already a beast so didnt notice there, and we all know 115+ (for those of us who've been to the track =D) the car really starts to slow down

115+...that would be one hell of a long a$$ track for this car.

Way ahead of you man! Haha!
You said you installed the Traction kit right? Anything really noticeable with it? Was thinking about getting it from Racingline. It's on my to do list, But I'm waiting for the new CXJ mod (I am sure you know what I am talking about).
The low end is what I consider is needed most......115 or ?
As far as the top end...why? I can pull (pass) most vehicles as it is now.

thats how I feel too, ive been trying to see which mods help the low end cause we got plenty of highway passing power already. im working with AAM on some final parts for my car and then gettin Uprev tuned at Hill's Garage by the infamous Frank Hill - THAT i really cant wait for because I will finally get to see the true potential of all these bolt-ons
