Q: Drove 160km's/100miles an hour...

I did this for like an hour or more yesterday, coming back from toronto....

Just curious what can it do to the engine that is bad?
I was going pretty dang quick for a nice amount of time

It's something that i never totally thought of, plus i'm still learning about engines, and stuff like that...

Thanks

B.T.W, i did montreal, toronto in about 4 and a half hours...
usually takes like 6 hours hehe

No it's not bad for the engine. Just make sure your tires are in good shape and are inflated properly. You don't want any problems at that speed.

If you didn't run low on oil, nothing bad.

As long as the engine runs at a normal temp you could run at redline all day if you want at least until you run out of gas.

hehe woot ;-) k... i was doing 160kms/100m per hour most of the way back... with some spurts here and there going quicker....
was pretty nice. Now i'm back home i can check out what my arctic alpines are rated as :/ yikes.

I was doing around 160km's most of the way down to Toronto, At one point i saw what i thought was a civic behind me, so i speed up, figure i'll lost him in a second. Nope, instead he's still on my tail. So i move over, turns out it's an S4 or Audi A8, not sure anymore... He just blasts past me and that was all i saw from him.
dang. heh

anywho, thanks, just making sure.

I think the engine will die out like that, for more then an hour.

The more load you put on the engine, the more chance for engine wear. While it may be very insignificant, your engine will wear a little more the higher you rev it (and it takes higher revs to go 100 than to go 75). If you consistently go 90, say instead of 70, you might be talking about an engine that lasts 125k instead of 150k miles. Might not mean much, but it's still there...not to mention the increased load on the axle joints and wheel bearings as you are zipping down the highway at 100mph.
