Possible Rear Main Oil Seal Replacement

Has anyone ever done this job on the car? How difficult is it? What should I expect to pay for a mechanic if I decide to go that route? Is there a tutorial to do it out there somewhere? Oil is disappearing at a rate of 1/2 quart a week I need to get this fixed before it gets worser.

Yes

Not technically difficult at all, just time consuming

No clue, my guess would be a couple hundred

Remove tranny, remove clutch, remove flywheel, remove old seal, push in new seal, install flywheel, install clutch, install tranny

Are you sure the rear main seal is leaking and you're not just burning oil?

its gonna be more than a couple hundred, probably triple that because you have to remove the tranny. at least where i work thats what the labour would add up to about

i would agree that youre probably burning oil, rub your finger on the inside of the muffler and if you get black residue on your finger, youre burning oil.

my 3rd gen had a rear main seal leak and it left like a single quarter sized drop if i parked it for a hour, if youre loosing a half litre a week you would be seeing large oil puddles when you park. my truck burns a litre every week or two and i do the same thing, just top it off
