Going to buy a Maxima tommarrow and I need your help ....... please???

I crashed my 300zx in september and have been looking for a 97-98 240sx since then but I can't find a decent one.

So I'm getting a maxima .... I didn't know they were way more powerful than the 240sx or I would have gotten one a long time ago.

Here's the situation.

I dont like the grille or tail lights on the 95-96 and i'm on a budget so i've decided to get a 97.

Now from what I understand the GXE is base, the SE has a spoiler, fog lights, and bigger wheels, and the GLE has leather but no fog lights, and no bigger wheels. Please correct me if I am wrong!!!

There is a local dealer who has a GXE WITH power everything and sunroof and cd player so it's pretty much a GLE with no leather. They are selling it for 15500 Canadian Dollars which is 10,300 American Dollars. It's got a clean title and 95,000km's (60000 miles).

1st is this a fair price???
2nd are the engine and performance specs of the GXE the same as the GLE and SE???
3rd will the fog lights from the SE fit the GXE???

The deal is that I originally wanted an SE and then put leather into it or ideally a GLE at a good price but this GXE is in my price range and I would put aftermarket wheels on it anyways so that's not a big deal for me .... i'll get the fogs if they fit.

What do you guys think.

Thanks in advance for any opinions.

Seems like an average price, maybe you can hit them for a lower price. If you plan on modding ie(suspension, rims, other) go for the GXE because the extra options on the SE would just be a waste. Rule of thumb, buy a 5spd!!! you will be much happier with the performance.
Here's an example of my purchase:
I bought it in November of 01
97 Maxima SE everything but leather/bose
50k miles
mint condition, 2 dents
$12,500

I doubt that its bose I dont think GXE's came with bose ... I could be wrong tho.

But to give u an idea I bought my 95SE 5Spd in oct with Leather Bose Sunroof Climate Control ... fully loaded with everything for 12000 Canadian Dollars.
The car had 124000 KMs on it.

I think I got a "fair" deal. Could have gotten it a lil bit cheaper. so that 97 GXE sound "ok" at that price. Try to get him down a little.

I would try and find a private party that wants to sell because with the dealer u'll end up payin 15% tax whereas u only pay 8% if u buy private.

To sunnyG, I think the price is nice but make sure you get a 5 speed since you seems like to have fun from you wanting to buy a 240.

I got a C&C but no bose only the sunroof?

Probably not BOSE. It may be the standard 100 watt radio/cassette/cd player like mine.

Btw its too bad about the 300ZX. ICBC considered it a right-off?

You will suffer going from a 300zx to automatic maxima... Find a 5 speed. I also think that price is high.. You want to find a leather SE that way you don't have a speed limiter, and you get your lamps..
But this is only my opinion.

Yeah ICBC Wrote off the 300zx because the engine came off the mounts. Click the link in my sig to check out pics of it crashed!!! ICBC gave me $18,600 ($12,400 US) but I spent $3000 of it paying off some bills.

So I have $15,600 for a car ($10,400 US) for a car and I want a 97-98 240sx or a 97-99 Maxima. I can't find an SE in the price range ... even without Leather. And I do ALOT of driving in traffic so I want the Auto (the 300zx was also Auto). I drive from Abbotsford to Burnaby and back (about 130km's or 81 Miles) everyday because I go to school at SFU out there. So I'd rather get an Auto.

Keep a lookout for those of you in BC ..... and drop me an e-mail at sungill@shaw.ca if you find a nice one!! Preferably in black!!

Thanks.

Not that it really matter, but the GLE is the lowest model of maxima, the GXE is the "classy" version, and the SE is the sport version, just though I sould clear that up.

You have that backwards, the GXE is the base model, the GLE is the loaded model.

Medisonic is correct. I just pulled out my '97 Maxima brochure and the GXE is the low end model.
