When going above 50 mph my steering wheel develops a shake. I've had the tires balanced and don't know what else to do to stop it. Also while I was rotating tires, I noticed the steering tierods where at a very extreme angle(eibach springs). I was wondering if anyone else had this problem and if it would help if I flipped them the other way(coming up from the bottom instead of down from the top).

You should not have to make ANY alterations to your steering. Rather, it could be that you've either got a CV boot about to blow out on you (if it hasn't already) or you need a camber kit. Very rarely do you need one with Eibach springs (I didn't), but that could be the go. But that's the ONLY thing that you would ever need to do to your suspension to combat that problem.

hmmm, well i'm not really familiar with maxima suspension, but....

like The Max said, this could be a camber problem....camber kit would help with that. how much did the springs lower your car? when was the last time you aligned your car, and if you have the readout, give us some angles

did you check out your balljoints?

are you sure its just the steering wheel and not the whole car? oh wait....front wheel drive, no pesky driveshafts, no damn U-joints...nevermind

Thanks, looked under the car today. Driver-side inner and outer CV boots are torn. Good Call. Is an alignment for a lowered car any harder or different than a stock height car? The only alignment shop that does lowered cars her wants me to pay twice as much($100). Is he telling the truth or am I about to get ripped off. I really don't have a choice because he's the only one in like a four hour drive in any direction but I still want to know.

Heh. I had a feeling it would be your CV boots. At any rate, the alignment will still have to be performed. And no, $100 is ASTRONOMICAL!! I just recently paid AUD$59 for a 4 wheel alignment on my Max and that's the going rate for any vehicle.

The guy is full of ****. Make sure you find someone who uses a very recent model computer alignment system. No traditional analogue meters, no ancient infra-red systems with computer graphics that look like they came out of a game of tetris! After I did my suspension, I had a 4 wheel alignment performed by some fella closer to home (charged AUD$50) and there was still a bit of steering wheel shake (but that was partly due to the CV) and it kept pulling to the left.

These other guys about 20km from home did the same alignment (when I bought some Dunlop Formula 901 tyres)using the latest gear and not only did the steering wheel shake (post-CV boot replacement) disappear completely, but the car drives as straight as an arrow. I was avoiding them only because of the distance, but I now know it is well worth it every time.
