O.K. So i'm getting this knock feeling in the steering wheel

O.K. So i'm getting this knock feeling in the steering wheel generally when I am turning at a low speed, say under 15mph or so, in a bumpy parking lot. Or even when backing and turning I feel it even more. Kinda feels like something is hitting / tapping the steering column and I feel it through the steering wheel. Sometimes I can recreate the tapping while cruising on a smooth flat road, and while cruising I ever-so slightly apply pressure to the gas pedal and release, I feel the knock.
So I took it to Nissan and the tech told me he felt and heard the UPPER STRUT BEARING making noise and suggested replacing the strut top and strut bearing..........I don't know WTF a strut bearing is, but apparently it is a round donut looking thing at the top of the strut. Anyone else have a similar problem? Svc. guy says it's pretty common and should fix the knocking. For $250.00 I wanted a 2nd opinion and was going to ride 60 miles to another dealer. This morning when i got into the car to start the drive it was exceptionally cool out, 60 Deg., and when I pulled out of my driveway things felt solid like they should. No knocking at all. I decided not to go seeing as the problem wasn't presenting itself but now that it has heated back up to 90 Deg.+ it is doing it again. SO NOW heat seams to be a factor..........What may be wrong?

It sounds right... If it was only when your turning then its probably the axle....

I would like to add that most of the info I read about the strut bearing deals with noises coming from the suspension. I have no noise that I can hear only the knocking i feel through the steering wheel.

I’m experiencing the SAME EXACT issues now on my 2014 Maxima. Did you get it resolved?

@LtLeary what you think? I say, engine Mount, passenger side, top next to the coolant jug?

i agree, it could indeed be a motor mount vs the upper strut mount (bearing.) The good news is that is very easy to test with just a brake pedal, accelerator and a friend standing to the side.

My rule of thumb, if it is the strut mount, replace both struts as they are both the same age. (The upper strut mount comes with the struts) If it is the motor mount, replace them all as any torqueing effect surely has damaged the others.

Now, I know "needs must" so if you can only do the barest of minimums in today's economy, then do what you can now and save up for the other repairs coming your way.

please let us know what you end up doing!

🤛🏿🤛🏿 Yup. That’s exactly what I did a year back but instead replacing all mounts. Had shop replaced the firewall Mount to drop the frame
