starting/shifter issues (auto)....

plain and simple the car would'nt start last night after i stopped to get something to drink. i immediatley thought ignition switch cause when i turn the key all the idiot lights come on but takes 3-4 cranks to start. but, im having a problem with the shifter as i spilled a slushi into my linkage ( auto ) and i think thats adding to the problem cause the shifter selenoid is sticking from the slushi and when i wiggled it as i turned the key the car started every time?? what da heck is going on?!???!! im thinkin, test battery and alternator, replace switch after they test ok and replace shifter selenoid after starting problem is fixed. am i right??

I would drain the ATF and drop the pan & VB to clean up that mess. If you have the tools it's an easy job using the AT FSM and this VQPOWER writeup.

You'll only need to buy 7 quarts of ATF and an AT pan gasket.

Clean all the slushi out of the shifter. Sticking linkage is keeping the p/n safety switch from closing.

You certainly don't realize the damage sugar can do. I would clean the shift lever from both the top and then the bottom by dropping the VB. You may not know that to drop the VB you need to first drain the ATF and drop the AT pan. Not all of us do half asx work.

Hes pilled his slushi inside the car into the shifter, not onto the transmission shift lever.

Why would he need to open the trans up to clean inside his car?

Not all of us overhaul the transmission in order to clean a slushi from inside the car.
