I am having a hard time getting my car to reach 140mph

Hi, guys I been having issues with my car, I never had problems hitting 140 MPH,but lately I been having problems hitting 140 mph. I pushed my car in the snow, I shorted my knock sensor harness the (white) wire and I shorted the head light sockets and I lost my reverse gear, causing me to get a new tranny. I have also assume there could be something else that's shorted like the injectors harness or the coil packs harness and the fuel pump harness or the pump it's self. I will have to test the harness with the voltage reader. I am not sure if i shorted or shocked the ECU or the TCM module. I noticed that the tranny is new with the RSS. The TCM self diagnosed test from the shilton manual as stated to turn the key on/off position with the o/d off or on ect. The TCM has always flashed and paused for the RSS being out. I am considering a TCM to be tested out. I had the RPMS running around 1500 RPMS when I am at 60 MPH I would be at 80 MPH with the RPMS at the 1500-2000 RPMS. I am now at 60 mph and the RPMS at 2000-2500 RPMS. I would be at 80 mph and the RPMS would be at 3000 RPMS. I burn alot of gas than I used and I can't get it to go and hit 140 easily like I used to sometimes it's stuck and it's slowly climbing up. I can get the car to run good if the weather is cold outside and the car pulls hard and easy. If I use the heat or if the car is running in the hot heat it runs bad like, it would give a slight hesitate. I am leaning towards a short somewhere or a bad ECU or TCM any tips thanks.

Have you tried running it into a tree? 65 is the highest speed limit in the us unless you live in the middle of the desert where there is no phone towers, Internet, shopping centers or life.

Count your shifts it sounds like your TCC is malfunctioning

70 is the S.L. here on the interstates.

It used to be that way in Montana. I visited a friend up in Missoula, MT to go snowboarding. He said they changed it b/c guys were bringing in their high-end supercars and racing them on the highway. Back in 99 they changed it to 75

70 in WA, 65 Max in OR. ID has 70 as well. Regardless, triple digits aren't that hard to do...but 140mph?

I think he might be right...

but, either way... the highest speed limit in the US is none of the above. Its now 85 in Texas.

As for the OP, if your rpms changed at certain speeds then your gearing changed. Dont see how wiring or your headlight socket or cutting your top speed limiter wire has anything to do with it. Also, a 500rpm range for a certain speed is pretty broad... You should really get some cold hard facts about this problem. Check the codes if you have any. look at the trans part number and make sure its right.

something just doesnt make sense to me.

I get the 1,2,3, shifts it even shifts in the 4th gear at 120 so, I am just wondering about the RPMS. I can get the car to get me into o/d on/off shifting the car drops down and revs up when the o/d is on/off, I am assuming the TCM is functioning and the TCC is to. The last time I ruined my tranny, I had an SES light on and the TCC code was showing up on the scanner. I installed the new tranny and the car was running again.

No, I don't troll around I got other things to do that are very important to me than sitting here trolling around. If I was to troll I would admit to it. I don't know about developmentally challenged, but I do know my car is acting up and it's very annoying.

I have same feeling about this too but, I will have to take out the TCM and than replace it. I will have to do the voltage test and then check the ECU out. I might have a short honestly, because I remember pushing the car in the snow and I remember frying the sockets and the knock sensor wires.

You should have 5 shifts during cruise not full out salt flat time trial.
At 60 mph you should be in torque converter lock up. It should have engaged way before that though unless you foot is in the floor.

You should have 1st 2nd 3rd overdrive and TCC lockup.

I don't care if the speed limit is higher in other states. It's not 140. I thought this forum didn't condone speak of such idiocy

I have the tranny part number here now C10CM-80X17-RE. I bought the tranny from courtesy parts and the tranny is the right one, that's what they told me when I was doubting the tranny. I ordered it and I gave him the vin number so I can get the right one. It's an SE tranny and it has no rev limiter, cut out or any limiter. I did test it to 140 but it took a while it got there.

I do get all the shifts, but I didn't know it was 5 shifts, I will look into that I believe it does shift at 60 the TC locks in but I will, look into it again. I believe as someone posted here the gearing might have changed.
